Oh, please! Oh please! I beg of you! Do not call the Quilt Police when you see my repair. 🚓👮🚨
Good morning, Sweet friends and Happy Sunday. Can I bribe you with a piece of carrot cake to not call the quilt police? LOL. It is quite yummy!
Last Sunday , I was telling you about the repairs that I needed to make to the burgundy triangles in my Alabama Beauty quilt.
If you are not familiar with the Alabama Beauty quilt, this was a partially quilted piece I bought in Alabama on the World's Longest Yard Sale in 2023.
I am finishing the quilting as the original quilter started it with pretty pink quilting thread .
Anywhoo... those pretty floral burgundy triangles had holes in them. Upon further examination , I realized that the holes were mostly in the grayish leaves. - Perhaps the dye that was used or is it moth holes???? 🤔- Hmm I am not sure.
 |
Small holes were in the burgundy triangles. |
Well, I just had to make the repairs so I found a dapper brown floral fabric . Pinned it over the original triangles and whip stitched them down.
 |
I pinned the brown fabric over the burgundy triangles and appliqued it in place. |
What do you think ?
 |
Two triangles repaired. Now I need to repair the little brown triangles under the scissors. |
Ok?" Or Should I be thrown in the clink for Wild and Reckless Operation of a Needle? Hee! Hee!
I think I am going to live recklessly and make more repairs today . 😁🪡🪡🪡
I finished Love Letters , a 2023 , Kathleen Tracy of A Sentimental Quilter design which she shared as a SAL at the time. I am fixing to change out all of this clutter. This little shelf holds vintage made in Japan redware and USA pottery.
My 10 minute a day project this week has been the "America Sampler" by The Calico Confectionery ( a sweet gift from dear PJ). ❤🤗

ReplyDeleteHee! Hee! Thank you so much, Darlene. I have a few more triangles to repair and then I am off and running with my needle again! Maybe by the end of the day I will be able to move my hoop. Have you started your applique? Have a fabulous day. Hugs.
DeleteI'll gladly have a slice of carrot cake...mmm
ReplyDeleteI see you're sewing nonstop...that's fabulous!
Have a happy Sunday.
Hugs
Oh the cake is yummy, Isabel! I am trying to stay as busy as possible. So many projects - I just wish I had more hours in the day. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit. Warm hugs.
DeleteFloral brown triangles are just perfect for the repairs!! Nice work ;)))
ReplyDeleteYour little Love Letters piece is so adorable!! Sounds like you'll have quite a busy week ahead...Enjoy the party--hugs, Julierose
Oh thank you so much, Julierose. After the repairs, I am hoping to move this quilt along. It is quilting up so nicely. I wish you a wonderful week . Hugs.
DeleteYour repairs look great and nice progress on many things. It's a busy time of year for me so not much stitching. Baseball and softball have started and travel softball so I am at games all week. I love it more this year because my grandson graduates this year so it is his last year of school ball. I also am retiring at the end of the school year so hopefully I will have more time to sew and stitch. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting that you are fixing to retire, Joy! I am sure you will love every minute of staying at home. I bet you will stay busier than ever with fun projects. Baseball and softball games keep you on your toes . Do you take stitching along? It is baseball season here with our grandsons too. Sometimes I take stitching ; other times applique. Congratulations to your grandson on his upcoming graduation. They grow up way too fast don't they? Have a great week, Joy. Hugs.
DeleteHappy Birthday to your grandson! I think your repairs to the quilt are perfect. It’s interesting to see how different colors and fabrics held up through the years. Lots of pretties in your post.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Penny. He had a grand celebration and was as happy as a clam. You are so right- It is interesting to look at the fabrics of old quilts and how the fabrics fared. I wish you a wonderful week. Happy quilting and stitching. Hugs.
DeleteI think your repair job looks fantastic, Melisa. You got quite a bit accomplished throughout the week. Sending your grandson the happiest of birthday wishes! I can't believe he is 11. Wow!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to get done. I hope this week is just as productive. It is hard to believe my grandbaby turns 11- he is growing up on me. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteNo complaints here about your fix-it job on the Alabama Beauty. I've done that myself! Happy Birthday to your oldest grand son - mine turned 16 this year, driving, and has a job. Phew! I've been working on a few things - a Christmas quilt that is really random, a couple of cross stitch, projects, and I finally did an inventory of my quilt projects here in the RV (don't ask about the stuff in storage! :-O!!!) Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Donna for the sweet birthday wishes. The grandson had a fabulous day. Well that is fabulous that your grandson is driving and has already got a job. He sounds like he is ambitious ! Love to hear that! You are staying busy. Do you have a special way that you store your projects in your RV? I have been putting mine in little plastic totes and stacking them in one corner in the truck camper. It is a challenge, but it is nice to have a choice of projects to work on while camping. Have a wonderful week working on your Christmas quilt, Donna. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteHope your grandson has a wonderful 11th birthday! My oldest granddaughter will be 11 in June - time sure does fly with the nk!! I just finished the last of the Strawberry Stamps yesterday and now you have another one - looking forward to it. I am planning on switching out my Spring Stamps for Strawberry Stamps in my wood bowl today on the dining room table. I am working on the Summer House right now and have one more July house to go. I have done almost all of the houses since I found your blog last April. I love to display those by month. You do such wonderful designs and that you for sharing. Carrie
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Carrie. The grandson did have a fabulous birthday. I wish your granddaughter an early birthday. They grow up way too fast don't they? Oh how exciting that you have been working on the strawberry stamps. I am hoping to add a few more stamps this year- ( You know my love for strawberries) . The new stamps will use the same floss colors as last years. You are staying super busy stitching. It just warms my heart to hear that you have stitched almost every home that I shared. I am so very honored and grateful. I hope you have enjoyed each and every one. I am working on 2 new ones right now. I wish you a wonderful week and Happy Stitching. Hugs.
Deletegood morning lovely Melisa. i hope the day finds you making magical memories.
ReplyDeletehappy 11th birthday grandson. time definitely does fly. my grandchildren are all very young adults and i remember when i was burping them on my shoulder giving tender kisses on their cheek. i miss those days. aw!!! amazing times.
any special birthday celebration planned? the carrot cake sure does look delicious. i have my paper copy ready for market shopping and i'll be getting all the luscious ingredients very soon. carrot cake is my absolute favorite.
the repairs you are making on the alabama beauty are wonderful. the brown floral goes very well with the quilt and looks like it has been there all along.
blessings and love are on the way to you for a fantastically magnificient day. it's going to be a day of celebrating. hugs are on the way to you, too.

Good evening, dear Debra . I hope your weekend was a lovely one. We had a grand celebration for the grandson and of course there was a yummy cake to eat. Oh , I feel the same as you- I miss rocking my grandsons and running after them. They are growing up way too fast. I still call them my babies though. LOL. I do hope you enjoy your carrot cake . It is one of my favorites as well. I think I will make a Hummingbird Cake next month. I haven't had that in years. I wish you the most beautiful and blessed week. Tomorrow I will be planting my tomatoes and working on the garden. Hugs and love from the holler.
DeleteI think your repairs look great, the quilt police would have no charges for that repair. Happy birthday to oldest grandson. Yes they do grow up way too quickly.
ReplyDeleteWheww! No charges! Hee! Hee! Thank you so much, Kate. Thankfully, the repairs are going rather quickly. There were a few more damaged blocks than I realized. Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes for the grandson. He had a fabulous day. Have a wonderful week. Hugs.
DeleteWell done on the repair job and finding a great "go with" fabric to use.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Gail. I was determined to use what I had. I would have preferred to use an older fabric, but I just did not have any in my stash. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteI say good for you doing what was needed to give this beautiful quilt a longer life. It looks great! So much accomplished this week. The carrot cake looks very tempting. Wish your gr'son a happy 11th birthday. Pinch his cheeks for me! LOL He is the same age as my daughter's oldest boy. I have no doubt that you will accomplish everything you set out to do again this week.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny. It feels good to be working on Alabama Beauty again. After a few more repairs, I should be moving along on it. Thank you so much for the sweet birthday wishes for the grandson; he had a grand day. I am going to try to knock out everything on the week- we shall see if I can. LOL. I wish you a super day. Warm hugs.
DeleteYour repair work looks great! I think it's a good thing that you are doing that! You are a good planner...I am willy nilly.
ReplyDeleteAah thank you so much, Betty. I thought appliqueing over the triangles would be the quickest repair , plus I was leaving the original fabric intact underneath. Oh, I try to plan, but sometimes I fly by the seat of my pants. Nothing wrong with willy nilly. Have a great week . Warm hugs
DeleteNo reckless operation with that needle.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that you got those new pieces in there seamlessly. 😉
Be proud of your work!
Aaah thank you so much. I tried my best to ease the new fabric in place the best I could. It went pretty quickly too. I wish you a wonderful week. Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeleteI think your repair work looks wonderful, Melisa! And I love the mini rose sampler finish - so pretty. I might just allow myself a new start today - and that will be the one! Happy Birthday to your grand boy, too!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Diann. I was happy to get the burgundy triangles repaired. Just a few more to go then I can get on with the quilting. I hope you enjoy the new Mini sampler. I am hoping to start a new one this week too. Thank you for the birthday wishes too. Happy quilting and stitching. Hugs.
DeleteI think your repairs look wonderful! So glad you are able to save this beautiful old quilt. Thank you for all the wonderful cross stitch designs-I can't keep up! Working this year on all those wonderful small seasonal abc samplers. Annie with her ducks
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Annie. It is a joy to work on this old quilt. I hope I can finish it this year. Fingers crossed. Oh I am so excited to hear that you are working on the mini samplers. I hope to add more throughout the year. I hope you enjoy them and thank you for adding them to your stitching list. Have a blessed and beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteI like your repair. . .keep going! What a great way to save that top!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Terry. I have a few more triangles to go and then I can go back to quilting it. This quilt is such a sweet piece.I glad I was able to save it. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteLovely Rose Sampler. I jotted down your DMC colors for my future reference. I must be thinking about roses. I just ordered up a different rose patterrn and just this morning I was burning a rose-scented candle. Spring is definitely in the air! Happy birthday, 11-year-old! How fun to share such an awesome birthday with an awesome grandson!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Susie! Mmmm a rose candle sounds delightful. For some reason, I am hung up on roses this year. I want to plant more rose bushes. Fingers crossed I will be able too. I love this time of the year! Thank you so much for the sweet birthday wishes. He had a grand day and celebration. Have a lovely week. Hugs.
DeleteWow! You've been busy and getting a lot of things and progress done!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Sometimes I have good weeks and other times it feels like I am dragging my heels. I hope I can keep up my momentum. I wish you a very lovely week. Hugs.
DeleteIs it ok to admit that I didn't understand much after seeing that piece of cake. Oh my, does it look good. :o} Your repairs are looking great. Your quilts are always so pretty. stitchinrose
ReplyDeleteHee! Hee! Nothing wrong with that! I wish I could send you a big ole slice . It was yummy! Thank you so much for the sweet giggles and kind words on my repairs. You brought a big smile to my day. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteI think you have a great job on those repairs, I'm not sending the quilt police!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Jenny. I tried my best to match the triangles and not let my applique get too wonky. It has been a fun project to repair and quilt on this beauty. Have a blessed day .Hugs.
DeleteI think it's a beautiful repair...and it works perfectly! Life is short...live as recklessly as you can and get by with it! LOL Thanks for joining us at Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteLOL I am going to try my best , Brenda. I have just a few more repairs and then I am back to quilting. I hope you have a great week in the sewing room. Thank you so much for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteYou can do all my repairs that's for sure! Lovely work! I have seen a trend of making the repair very visible, hot color, distinct shape, kind of the like the kids haveing a colorful bandage to show off their bravery! A quilt patch would show it's "scar in the line of duty". Yours looks just perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I haven't seen that but that is a great idea . I love that- "scar in the line of duty" - how true it is. It shows a quilt is well loved that is for sure. I am going to do that in one of my other repair jobs . Thank you so much for the sweet compliment on my repair. I tried to not let mine get too wonky. LOL. Have a fabulous week, dear. Warm hugs.
DeleteQuilt Police? I don’t even have their number! 😊What an ingenious way to fix those holes and it looks just fine. I have two quilts that I’ve been putting off the repairs. Now, I’ll do them using your method! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove Letters is so sweet. You’re certainly making progress on your America Sampler! You have many goals for next week. I like your idea of 10/15 minute a day projects.
Happy birthday to your oldest grandson. Yes, time flies!
LOL I am so glad no quilt police are on the way. Hee! Hee! The repairs went pretty quickly on this quilt. I hope you will share yours when you get to them. I had come to a screeching halt on the quilt when I came to these triangles, but now I am glad I am moving forward. Thank you so much for the sweet visit and birthday wishes. Have a fabulous week. Hugs.
DeleteYes I could be bribed with carrot cake, LOL. But I don't think the quilt police needed to be called anyway, your brown looks great in that quilt!
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Vicki. You brought the biggest smile to my day. I have a few more triangles to repair and then back to the quilting. I wish I could send you a big slice of carrot cake. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteHappy birthday to your grandson! Bravo for reparing so nicely this damaged quilt, the new triangles are just where they belong. Well done also finishing Love Letters!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing these goodies, and linking up.
I think your repair is more than acceptable. I had to make similar repairs a few years ago for a customer. They so appreciated that the life of a special quilt was extended. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday to your grandson. You're doing a great job on the Alabama Beauty repairs...I won't tell anyone how reckless you are with the needle. You got a lot done on your prior week's list.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think you should be commended on your restoration of the quilt you not only rescued, but are lovingly giving it a second life. My bet would be that the holes were just from being used and loved over the years. The quilt police won't bother you. They are too busy policing the cross stitchers!!
