Oh, please! Oh please! I beg of you! Do not call the Quilt Police when you see my repair. 🚓👮🚨
Good morning, Sweet friends and Happy Sunday. Can I bribe you with a piece of carrot cake to not call the quilt police? LOL. It is quite yummy!
Last Sunday , I was telling you about the repairs that I needed to make to the burgundy triangles in my Alabama Beauty quilt.
If you are not familiar with the Alabama Beauty quilt, this was a partially quilted piece I bought in Alabama on the World's Longest Yard Sale in 2023.
I am finishing the quilting as the original quilter started it with pretty pink quilting thread .
Anywhoo... those pretty floral burgundy triangles had holes in them. Upon further examination , I realized that the holes were mostly in the grayish leaves. - Perhaps the dye that was used or is it moth holes???? 🤔- Hmm I am not sure.

Well, I just had to make the repairs so I found a dapper brown floral fabric . Pinned it over the original triangles and whip stitched them down.

I finished Love Letters , a 2023 , Kathleen Tracy of A Sentimental Quilter design which she shared as a SAL at the time. I am fixing to change out all of this clutter. This little shelf holds vintage made in Japan redware and USA pottery.
My 10 minute a day project this week has been the "America Sampler" by The Calico Confectionery ( a sweet gift from dear PJ). ❤🤗

🌞4. Begin a new Down on the Farm Stamp
🌞5. Begin a new Strawberry Stamp
🌞6. Post a new house stitch.
🌞7. Continue work on America Sampler.
🌞8. Sort through my WIPS and find a project to work on.

✅🌞1. Post progress of Flaming Butterflies . Eeeeh! I finished it!🦋🦋🦋 I posted about this quilt on Friday. ✅🌞2.Work Alabama Beauty quilt
✅🌞3. Begin a new cross stitch mini sampler.
I shared Rose Garden Mini Sampler on Monday. It was Chose Your Own Colors Chart, but if you are interested, I used DMC 815 , 223, 730 and 844.
✅🌞4.Begin a new Farm Stamp .
❌🌞5.Work on Buttermilk Basin applique. Oh, bummer! I lost my pattern so this will have to go on the back burner until I find my pattern. Boo Hoo! 😭😭
✅🌞6. Sort through my WIPS and find a project to work on. I pulled out With Thy Needle and Thread's "Boo To You" to work on for Witchy Wednesdays.

Well, Sweeties, I am off to celebrate my oldest grandson's birthday. He just turned 11! My how time flies.

DeleteYour repairs look great and nice progress on many things. It's a busy time of year for me so not much stitching. Baseball and softball have started and travel softball so I am at games all week. I love it more this year because my grandson graduates this year so it is his last year of school ball. I also am retiring at the end of the school year so hopefully I will have more time to sew and stitch. Have a blessed week.

DeleteNo complaints here about your fix-it job on the Alabama Beauty. I've done that myself! Happy Birthday to your oldest grand son - mine turned 16 this year, driving, and has a job. Phew! I've been working on a few things - a Christmas quilt that is really random, a couple of cross stitch, projects, and I finally did an inventory of my quilt projects here in the RV (don't ask about the stuff in storage! :-O!!!) He sounds like he is ambitious ! Love to hear that! You are staying busy. Do you have a special way that you store your projects in your RV? I have been putting mine in little plastic totes and stacking them in one corner in the truck camper. It is a challenge, but it is nice to have a choice of projects to work on while camping. DeleteHope your grandson has a wonderful 11th birthday! My oldest granddaughter will be 11 in June - time sure does fly with the nk!! I just finished the last of the Strawberry Stamps yesterday and now you have another one - looking forward to it. I am planning on switching out my Spring Stamps for Strawberry Stamps in my wood bowl today on the dining room table. I am working on the Summer House right now and have one more July house to go. I have done almost all of the houses since I found your blog last April. I love to display those by month. You do such wonderful designs and that you for sharing. Carrie

ReplyDeletehappy 11th birthday grandson. time definitely does fly. my grandchildren are all very young adults and i remember when i was burping them on my shoulder giving tender kisses on their cheek. i miss those days. aw!!! amazing times.
any special birthday celebration planned? the carrot cake sure does look delicious. i have my paper copy ready for market shopping and i'll be getting all the luscious ingredients very soon. carrot cake is my absolute favorite.
the repairs you are making on the alabama beauty are wonderful. the brown floral goes very well with the quilt and looks like it has been there all along.

Good evening, dear Debra . I hope your weekend was a lovely one. We had a grand celebration for the grandson and of course there was a yummy cake to eat. Oh , I feel the same as you- I miss rocking my grandsons and running after them. They are growing up way too fast. I still call them my babies though. LOL. I do hope you enjoy your carrot cake . It is one of my favorites as well. I think I will make a Hummingbird Cake next month. I haven't had that in years. I wish you the most beautiful and blessed week. I just ordered up a different rose patterrn and just this morning I was burning a rose-scented candle. Spring is definitely in the air! Happy birthday, 11-year-old! DeleteYou can do all my repairs that's for sure! Lovely work! I have seen a trend of making the repair very visible, hot color, distinct shape, kind of the like the kids haveing a colorful bandage to show off their bravery! A quilt patch would show it's "scar in the line of duty". Yours looks just perfect!

I think your repair is more than acceptable. I had to make similar repairs a few years ago for a customer. They so appreciated that the life of a special quilt was extended. Thanks for sharing in Sew & Tell.

ReplyDeletePersonally I think you should be commended on your restoration of the quilt you not only rescued, but are lovingly giving it a second life. My bet would be that the holes were just from being used and loved over the years. The quilt police won't bother you. They are too busy policing the cross stitchers!!
