What's Embroidery Thursday? Well, since Thursdays are my official babysitting day, I always have an embroidery project in the works to enjoy as I watch the youngins' play. Today's embroidery is Part 2 in Joy's Stitch Along .
Last week Joy shared PEACE and the BORDER for WEEK 1's stitch. It is a "Choose Your Own Floss Colors" project so I stitched my border with DMC 895 and "Peace" in DMC 498.
Today I will be stitching "JOY" . I will be pulling floss colors here shortly to see what colors to play with.

Monday I pieced a wee strawberry quilt and traced out Berry Season Doodles . I will continue embroidering the next design today as well.
Hmmm. What other mindless project can I work on? I know! My patriotic sheep punch needle !!! 🐑🐑🐑 It has been a blue moon since I have worked on it.
I am punching on the back . This is what the front looks like. It is a sweet little ewe in a basket of blooms.
Do you like to work on punch needle? I am curious have you ever tea dyed a finished piece? I may spritz this one with a coffee/ tea mixture- maybe.
Not only is it Embroidery Thursday but it is Thrifty Thursday as well. It has been a spell since I have shared my thrifty finds.
Over the last couple of weeks, I have picked up a few white pieces including a tureen, a pitcher and a stoneware bowl.
EEEEEH ! I mean OOOINK!!!! Aren't these Shawnee Smiley Salt and Pepper Shakers the cutest??!!! I was jumping for joy when I picked them up for $3.00. You know me and pigs- I love them!!!!❤🐷🐖💗
My daughter actually likes the pumpkin tureen/ cookie jar and mugs. 😀
Each piece is labeled "Carolyn" and were made in 1970. When I store my ceramics, I wrap them in plastic wrap. This pumpkin is all wrapped and ready to go into storage in the she shed.

I hope to share my "vintage hardware" finds in the future, but here is a sneak peek at some of the goodies I purchased- "Window Tacks" from the 1940's. The red and blue packaging is perfect for summer display.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, these projects have kept me busy today, Gretchen. I had never heard of window tacks before. The back has the cutest graphics that explains that the numbered tacks are nailed into the wood of windows and screens. From what I read it helped one keep up with which screen went with which window. I thought it was pretty interesting.
DeleteI've never done punch needle; your little piece looks so pretty!!:))) Mom and I used to go thrifting in local flea markets during the Summertime...[I miss her company so much...8 years now she's gone ahead....I haven't thrifted since then...].

Aaah I bet you have many fond memories thrifting with your mom. It is hard to get back to doing such things isn't it? My sister and I shared this love of thrifting. When she passed , I found it hard to enjoy it again, but my thrifting mojo has came back. I just wish my sis was here to enjoy it with me. Thank you for the sweet visit, Julierose.

DeleteJoy's SAL sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't done embroidery in years, and it was mainly just back-stitching then. Your little quilt is adorable with your Berry Season Doodles. I keep telling myself that I am NOT going down the punch needle rabbit hole....yet :)

DeleteI've never done the punch needle but used to do the latch hook rug kids when I was younger. What a cute cat, I hope they decide to adopt your family. Have a great day with the kiddo's.

DeleteI've never tried needle punch, but am intrigued by it! Maybe one day...!! Love those little pig salt and pepper shakers and all your goodies! I have a pumpkin mug similar to those but no tureen! That kitty looks sweet. I hope he/she does adopt you!

DeleteI saw Joy was having another Christmas stitch a long and am saving them for later. So many projects, so little time! LOL! When I go to AL, I go thrifting with my dd - can't wait! I also go thrifting with my d-i-l. She has a no stop attitude and can go all day with a stop at Dunkin' and a quick bite to eat at Popeye's or wherever she decides! Not familiar with window markers - will have to look into that! Blessings!

DeleteI didn't either, Jenny. I found a whole box of them from the 1940's. I liked the packaging and they were just pennies. I had to look them up and found that you nailed the numbered tacks on a wooden window and screen. The numbers would help you match the screens to the window if you took them off- well that's how I understood it. I thought it was pretty interesting, but I just like the graphics and the fact they are vintage. Thank you so much for the sweet Thursday visit. Hugs.

DeleteSo many fun things shared today. The pigs and pumpkin thrift finds are wonderful! Great progress on all your embroidery. I haven't needle punched in years. The ewe in the crock was an ambitious choice. It's looking great! The window markers are really interesting. I've never heard of such things. Shaggy is a handsome fella/gal. Do you know which? Looks well fed.
