I AM PLANNING EARLY

It is another rainy day here in the holler- a perfect day to start something new.

It's raining cats and dogs.

I pulled out a few green fabrics  to audition a quilt block for next year's Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Might as well plan early.😀

With a swish and a swoosh, I soon had 2 1/2" strips cut.

2 1/2" strips cut.

The block is all laid out.

The block layout.

With a vroom vroom of my sewing machine, a block was pieced!

I do I think this would be a great easy block for the RSC. What do you think? This is a design by Osie Lebowitz called "Sew  a Season  Spin and Sparkle pattern " for Timeless Treasures.  I found this as a freebie on the Quilt Connection , Etc. website along with other quilting freebies.

So far I have just made 2 blocks. I laid them on the table thinking they would make a cute tablerunner. Maybe make one in patriotic colors. Hmmm- an idea!

Who knows.🤷 I may get a wild hair and chunk the idea of this being a 2026 RSC project, and it will make it into this year's rotation. We shall see.

I found this yummy sounding recipe on the back of package and thought I would give it a try.😋🌴

🌴 Coconut Crowned Fruit Salad 🌴
INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cup of fresh cantaloupe balls or chunks
1 1/2 cup of fresh pineapple chunks
1 cup of fresh blackberries
cup fresh strawberries, halved
2 small kiwi fruit peeled, halved and sliced
2 Tablespoon of fresh lime juice
1 Tablespoon of honey
3/4 cup of unsweetened coconut flakes

DIRECTIONS
Place fruit in a large bowl. In a small container , combine lime juice and honey . Drizzle over the fruit . Combine gently using a rubber spatula. Spoon fruit into individual serving dishes.  Sprinkle 2 - 3 Tablespoons of coconut flakes over each serving.

Patriotic pieces are coming out.

I wish you the most delightful day and thank you for dropping in to see me.

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

  1. Why wait till next years RSC? Since you've already done green blocks for May, I think you will really want to continue on during the following months.

  3. The green block looks very springy! The fruit salad sounds good and healthy. I baked a crustless rhubarb custard pie today, not so healthy but delicious!

    1. How yummy! I have not had rhubarb pie in years . I love it! I was tempted to buy a rhubarb plant earlier this spring. I wish I had. Thank you so much for the sweet Saturday visit, Gretchen.

  6. good afternoon Melisa.
i am so happy to hear from you today. my daughters, Angela and Andrea, took me to the San Diego Zoo for an early Mother's Day gift. it was so much fun. we had "a before the zoo" opened panda presentation and the pandas are so adorable. they are on loan to us from China and it was a real treat to see them up and eating their bamboo first thing this morning. the female panda is 4 years old and the male is 6 years old. they can begin breeding at 6-7 years old and it will be interesting to see if we have a little baby panda in the next few years. of course, i had to see my majestic elephants and that to me is always amazing. we then walked the zoo for a few hours and then proceeded onto lunch. i am beat!!! it was hot, hot, hot here today and i think the heat wore me out. all in all a very special day. i'm sure i'll hear from my son tomorrow. so looking forward to it.
thank you so much for the RSC information. i did print the pattern and just may make a Christmas RSC quilt. thank you for the idea Melisa. you're wonderful!!!
my tomatoes are doing very well and they need watering again tonight. they are definitely thirsty little devils. i imagine with all this heat they do need lots of water.
i wish you a very wonderful Mother's Day Melisa. stay good to yourself. it's your day. perhaps Mr. Pinker will put some steaks on the barbee!!!
blessings and love are on the way to you. hugs.

    1. Oh, Debra, it sounds like you had the most delightful Mother's Day out and about. The zoo sounds amazing especially the pandas. I do hope that there will be baby pandas in the zoo's not so distant future though the female has a few more years to go- how interesting ( I didn't know that). I have to admit that elephants are one of my favorites as well along with the chimps ( not everybody likes them Hee! Hee!) I haven't been to a zoo in years. I am so glad you printed the pattern out. There were lots of cute ones there wasn't there? I need another project like a hole in the head, but I just couldn't resist. LOL. It sounds like your tomatoes are doing fabulous. I haven't seen mine in a couple of days because it has been raining which is nice. I wish you a wonderful Mother's Day . Do something very special for yourself. Sending big hugs and love from the holler-.

  8. Loving the green blocks!!! Actually, I love everything. teehee I need to learn how to "swish and swoosh". You'd be my perfect teacher because you definitely swish and swoosh like a pro. LOL Very little stitching or sewing happening here. I've been helping my neighbor friend. We spent most of today doing some prep cooking for the week. And I've been struggling with a worrisome health challenge, so I've been having some tests done. Crazy and hectic week. Ugh!!! I'm planning to spend a little time this evening and tomorrow with a needle and thread. Happy Mother's Day, my sweet friend!!! Lots of big hugs, Darlene J

    1. LOL I swish and swoosh like a mad woman. Hee! Hee! And sometimes I actually get a little bit completed. I had a ball piecing this easy peasy block. I am so sorry to hear that you have been going through some health challenges. You are in my thoughts and prayers. The worry can often be the worst. Do take care. I know you have a lot on your plate right now , but I do hope you do something for yourself that brings you joy even if just a few minutes. I wish you a Happy Happy Mother's Day. Love ya' Hugs.

  10. Beautiful green blocks, Melisa.

  12. This appears to be a wonderfully easy block that packs a real wow. As quickly as these were to do up, the RSC from previous months could be done to catch up and definitely added to your monthly rotation. Great idea. It's rainy here today, too. Thought we might get some planting done but not in the mud. Enjoy your Mother's Day. What a yummy fruit salad recipe. Thanks!
