SCRRREEECH! Mr. Pinker slammed on the brakes. "What? What did you see?"
"Didn't you see that Bighorn Sheep?" I asked.
Bighorn Sheep outside of Red River |
Mr. Pinker turned his head and whirled Ole Big Red aka the truck around.
"Wow!" he said "How did I miss him?"
"I have no idea ", I replied as I shook my head with a smile . I immediately grabbed the camera and began snapping away.
What a magnificent fella he was. He was also quite happy to have his photo taken as he enjoyed his stroll along the NM 38.
"Where we are we headed to now?" I asked.
" We will just see what we can find, " he said with a smile. We never make plans. We sorta meander here and there- wherever the wind takes us.
It was not long before we made our way into Taos. Not to explore but to eat at one of my favorite fast food places in New Mexico- Blakes Lotaburger. We do not get to eat out much when we travel so this was a treat.
Blakes Lotaburger Green Chile Cheeseburger. |
My burger was loaded with Hatch Chiles. Yum! Yum!
After eating, it was time to leave town. We made our usual stop at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.
At 600 ft above the river, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge ranks as the 7th highest in the US. |
We walked the long bridge and enjoyed the view of the Rio Grande Gorge.
The gorge's depth is about 800 ft. |
Below us we saw a female bighorn sheep resting on a rock.
After taking in the view, we hopped into the truck and headed to our next camp.
Looks like another rainy day at camp for us. |
By evening time, I pulled out my Around the Garden Blocks. I pieced 4 blocks before I left home .
It is time to applique the green stems and then the flowers will be stitched.
This will be my slow stitching project for the next couple of days. Hopefully, soon flowers will be blooming in the center of the blocks.
I forgot to show you my red blocks from last month. "Around the Garden" is coming along.
I will see ya' around the campfire.
I hope you do not mind me sharing my travels with you. I will get back to my regular rambles soon. Have I told you lately how much I appreciate you? I sure do! I cannot thank you enough for your sweet visits, kind words and encouragement. You certainly make this ole' gal feel blessed. Love ya'!
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa

I really enjoy your adventures, you take wonderful pictures. Your quilts are amazing, really enjoy your progress. When I first saw the rock, my thought was a chicken rock. But I do see the heart now. stichinrose
ReplyDeleteI’m not sure I’ve commented before but I love your ramblings, around the farm, around the country, around your sewing/stitching and around your cupboard :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your travel posts, especially these in one of my favorite places. We've been on that highway and stopped at that bridge. I don't think we knew about Blake's, but I'll keep it in mind. I hope we can travel out that way in the next couple years. Your garden blocks are just beautiful! Have safe travels Melisa. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome fella you spied, Melisa! I am enjoying your travels (the pictures and the stories), so keep them coming. Your garden blocks are looking fantastic. Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteOh I do love your travel photos - we don't get to see these things as we travel - usually not on dh's itinerary - and I don't think he likes to boondock ;-) I'm enjoying your around the garden blocks. Did you have a pattern - and if so, would you be willing to share it or point me in the right direction? I'd love to have some slow stitching on a quilt. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteForgot to ask - when you go out on your travels, do you have a plan or itinerary?
DeleteOh lucky you that you got to see a big horn sheep up close!! Aren't they fabulous!! Your flower blocks look so pretty all laid out together.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love following your travels. I live vicariously through you! I know I'm blessed to still have my mother with me, but I sure would love to travel to AZ/NM. That bridge looks amazing and the bighorn was so majestic. I surely do adore your Garden Blocks. I might have to do something similar. Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to share in the travels of fellow stitchers. There's too much for everyone to see. Thanks for bringing us along.

I LOVE "traveling" with you! I rarely get away from home, so I enjoy traveling vicariously with others! I AM going to the Outer Banks in three weeks for a week, which will be a wonderful treat. There will be 18 of us staying in a house - probably chaotic with 9 kids, but I'm SO looking forward to it! This will be the first true vacation I've had in about 33 years!!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing where you are traveling, Melisa - keep posting! Good job spotting the big horn sheep and the mountain goat. Your Around the Garden blocks are so pretty in every color! They are going to make an amazing quilt!
ReplyDeleteI sure enjoyed your photos of the big horn sheep. I've never been that close to one! I hope you get those flowers applique to your garden blocks!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWow! The Big Horn Sheep was sure impressive. He obviously wasn't too concerned about you because you got some great shots. I hoped there would be a new heart rock. Is this one small enough to bring home? I would see those findings as a sign of Amy watching over you in your travels. The green Around the garden blocks are so happy. Can't wait to see what sort of flower is next. You walked across the bridge? Oooh, I don't know if I could do that. Not a fan of heights. You're much braver than I. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures from your travelling adventures and your quilts are looking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHugs

ReplyDeleteMy Lovey and I like to point ourselves in a direction and then just go where the breeze blows us, like you seem to do. We call it "yondering."
ReplyDeleteYour garden quilt is coming along so nicely.
Another wonderful post! How happy you two folks are! Love the photos of the wildlife...don't see those here. Beautiful garden quilt blocks too. Happy and safe travels, you two.

ReplyDeleteI love your ramblings. Living vicariously through you as our rambling days seem to be over or on hiatus these days. You two cover quite a few miles. I admit I'm jealous and I miss it but sharing yours certainly helps. AND of course I love all the other things you do too! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThe wonders of nature. Great pics!

So may views to take in. I've been thru NM and I remember seeing lots of the big horn sheep in AZ at Zion Nat'l park. Amazing creatures! Where are we off to next? :) (nwpaintedlady) can hardly wait to see :)
ReplyDeleteI’m loving tagging along on your travels. We also enjoy just making up our travels as we go along, but in Australia. When we were first married we had a slide on camper on our ute, or you would call it, a truck camper on a pickup. We now have a caravan and love getting away with it. Enjoy your trip and doing a bit of stitching along the way.
ReplyDeleteohhh what gorgeous sights you are seeing! Glad you saw that Bighorn - they are so amazing!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your travels. Love the bright and pretty 'around the garden' quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour travel blogs are always interesting to me, Melisa, because you always highlight parts of this beautiful country of ours that I've never visited! I love that sheep--imagine just seeing him grazing along the road. Amazing! Safe travels and happy crafting! ♥

ReplyDeleteYou are making a lovely quilt. I would do the applique then add the frame but your method works too obviously. It will be a charming quilt one day. But I have to say that the big horn steals the show. Enjoy the camping. Stay Safe! ;^)
