The other day , Mr. Pinker and I headed into the cove to check the creek and gather rock for our garden. So I thought I would share some of the scenery in this Not So Wordless Wednesday post. I hope you enjoy. 🤗

Working on Rose Garden Mini Sampler which I shared Monday.
Wow lovely place. We are nòw in a complex to be near specialists as hubby just turned 80 years old and also needed to downscale while we are still able to do it ourselves . But get to go on outing at a nearby beach.
ReplyDeleteHi, Susan. It sounds like you live near the places that you need to go and lovely areas to visit as well. I am sure strolls on the beach bring peace and tranquility. It has been ages since I have walked on the beach except around the lakes. I miss the sound of the waves and the sea gulls. I wish you and your dear hubby all of the best. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteI enjoyed strolling to the Cove with you, Melisa. Will your neighbors come get their floating dock or will Mr. Pinker tow it to them? Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Robin. Hubby called the neighbor and he will come get it. I think it floated off from his pond when the creek flooded. I was surprised that it made it down that far. Hopefully, he has towed it back before these last few rain showers or it will float on down to someone else's property. Have a great day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat an absolute delight just taking off on your own property to gather creek rocks. That old wall is a treasure, what is its history? I can't believe Mr Pinker built that bridge, it's amazing. Your property is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Linda. I believe the old rock walls were built in the 1800's . The rocks were stacked when they cleared the fields .The creek often would get up and move the rocks around. I am not sure if this was the entrance to the old mill or not. This property has an interesting history. I would love to know more about it. Hubby knows more than I do. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a beautiful way to spend the day. Reminds me of my grandmother's home in PA. Thank you for stirring up those precious memories :-) Blessings!
ReplyDeleteAaah that warms my heart that these photos brought back fond memories, Donna. You brought a smile to my day. Thank you for dropping by. Hugs
DeleteThe walk was lovely, the bridge is really neat. Have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Gretchen. It was a good day to be out and about in the cove. I do not go up into that area that often. But come summertime we will take the boys to swim. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs.
Deletegood morning beautiful Melisa.
ReplyDeletei love the photos and the bridge that Mr. Pinker made - wowza!!!! - i love, love, love it.
the grandbabies swimming spot is so amazing. peaceful!!! i could live there.
your poor neighbors that lost their dock. what are they doing now? is there a way for them to retrieve the dock portion that floated down the river? that's a real bummer!!!

Hello , sweet Debra. I hope you have had a lovely day. Oh this place is very peaceful . I believe the neighbor will just walk down the creek and rope it and have to pull it back up the creek. I cannot imagine how he would get it back otherwise. I cannot believe the dock made it that far and passed the bridge- so odd. I think the mill was an old gristmill. It has been gone for about 100 years. The neighbors brother once took the old grinding stones before we bought the property- what a treasure to have those. I have not seen photos of the mill. But I can imagine it in operation around the mid to late 1800's. There used to be a lot of flour mills in our area. Have a super weekend, dear Debra. Big hugs from the holler.
DeleteFor a city girl like me, your surroundings are a natural paradise, Melisa!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the beautiful photos.
Hugs
Aaaw you are so very kind, Isabel. We feel very fortunate to be able to have a place like this to enjoy. It is quiet and peaceful on this little track of land. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteHappy Wordless Wednesday to you and Mr Pinker! Thank you so much for taking me (us) on your stroll to the cove. I really enjoyed it very much! I wish you a happy, happy Wednesday. Big Hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteAaaw and thank you so much, dear Darlene for joining me on this little stroll through the woods. I thought it be best we go early before all of the chiggers and mosquitoes come out. LOL. Big hugs
DeleteMr. Pinker built a bridge?! So cool! Looks like a great spot for a quilt photo!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy. Well now why didn't I think of that? I am going to take a quilt up there next time I go. Thank you for the idea. Hugs.
Deletebeautiful. thank you
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Kit for the sweet visit and kind compliment. I wish you a fabulous weekend. Hugs.
DeleteWell that was a fun walk through the woods. Mr. Pinker's bridge is substantial...the neighbors may need some help!
ReplyDeleteHi Jeanna. Hubby did a great job on the bridge though he needs to make a few repairs; it is an old bridge. Oh yes, the neighbor is going to have a job towing the dock back up the creek. I hope he is able to get it back before it floats on down after these last few rains. I cannot imagine how he will get it back other than roping it and pulling it up the creek. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a beautiful area, Melisa! All the green - so pretty. Did you find any heart rocks?
ReplyDeleteOh I did, Diann. I need to take a photo of it. It was a big one and hubby placed it in my memorial garden for my sister. It was a good day to be out. Thank you for the sweet visit, Diann. Hugs
DeleteI really enjoyed this walk, thank you so much for sharing. You have a lovely blog and your header is stunning! Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada.
ReplyDeleteAaah welcome, Linda. You are so very kind ; thank you from the bottom of my heart. You brought a big smile to my day. My header photo is off my buffet. I have really enjoyed having all of those stitches out for spring. I do hope you will come back for a visit. Have a beautiful and blessed day. Hugs
DeleteBoth you and your Mister are so talented! Thank you for sharing your walk with us
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, dear Maureen for coming along with me. It was a good day to be out and about. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteMr. Pinker's bridge is awesome! Will the neighbors try to recapture their dock? Loved the pictures of the old mill site. Did you retrieve all the rocks you needed or will there be many collecting sessions?--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Terry. Hubby called the neighbor and he is going to try to retrieve the dock. How it made it down that far- I have no idea. It is going to be a task to tow it back up the creek. There will be more trips to the cove. I have been toting rock out of there for 30 years and still have not got all of my gardens framed in. LOL. I keep making new gardens too. I guess that is the problem. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a cool place to walk. The bridge is impressive! Hopefully the neighbors can retrieve their deck!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Kate. It was a nice day to visit the cove. I do not go there that often but hubby does. I am anxious to see if the neighbor retrieves the dock soon. Maybe hubby can check the next time he goes up there. Have a blessed day. Hugs
DeleteSuch a beautiful walk today, Melisa! Love that your grandsons have their own swimming hole :) Enjoy your day! ♥
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Carol for joining me. The grandsons, nephews and I worked all summer last year to dam part of it up, but all of that has washed away with the rains. So we will work on their swimming hole again this summer. They had a ball up there last year. Have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteThank you for taking me along on the trip to the creek and into the woods. Some of the things you mentioned are not easily seen but I love the history you were mentioning. The creek is a lot bigger than I imagined, too. Nice sturdy bridge Mr. P built. Some pretty stitching to finish up the day.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny for coming along with us. The old mill site is now covered with trees. We still see where the trench was made , but the photos do not do it justice . I would love to have a photo of the old mill but have yet to locate one. Come summer time it will be even harder to see anything because of the growth . It is a fun area for the family to visit though. Have an awesome weekend. Hugs.
DeleteAwesome job on the bridge Mr. Pinker! Envy here in Bellingham WA ~ I am so envious of your creek and woods. We had the beautiful Padden Creek running thru our back yard. It has been running here for hundreds of years and has been a salmon spawning creek. Enter environmentalist and city planning and last year was the completion of moving the creek, removing most to all the trees, replanting. I support helping the salmon but now we look at a chain link fence with black slats. No more walks into the woods. I haven't seen a deer since but the salmon are responding to their new run. I am assured the planting will fill in ~ that is in years.
ReplyDeletenwpaintedlady I actually have a few pics on my instagram page of it in all its beauty and also with the work of moving it, if your feeling like a good tearful cry
DeleteOh my goodness, Sharon. I had to hop over to see the photos. Wowzer they demolished the plant life and habitat for other wildlife. I am surprised. I know you are just heartbroken at the view that you have now especially compared to what you used to enjoy. Hopefully , the plants they chose will grow quickly , but I know it will not be the same. Thank you for the sweet visit and telling me about Padden Creek. It makes me appreciate my little creek even more. Warm hugs and blessings.
