"You ready to go?" asked Mr. Pinker.
"Sure. Where are we going? " I asked.
"Over the river and through the woods, " he replied. "Well actually to the neighbor's and then the state forest. "
Soon we were on our way.
So, today's "Not So Wordless Wednesday" post is another traipse in the woods.
Hope you enjoy. 🤗May apples are growing. |
What are these? |

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy who loved to explore the woods nearby. Love and miss you, Amo.
Beautiful! Don't you just love living like this? As for the picture with the "what is this caption"...it's called Conopholis americana - the American cancer-root, burned or bear corn and Is a perennial and attaches itself to some species of oak. It has no chlorophyll so it is not green. No, I'm not that smart - LOL! Thanks to google lens and wikipedia and the US Forest service! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we love exploring the woods. Well how interesting about the American Cancer root. I have never heard of it. I will have to tell hubby. I had never seen anything like it before. I will have to keep an eye out for it and look for the oak trees. Thank you for letting me know and for the sweet visit, Donna. Hugs.
DeleteEverything is so green and lush looking, Melisa. Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteOh, it is , Robin. It was a great day to explore the woods nearby. I had not been to this area before. Surprisingly , we did not see any critters though. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteBeautiful photos Melisa! What treasures there are to be found in that forest, it looks very inviting.
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Linda. It was a good day to be out and about exploring the beauty of the woods. Have a lovely day. Hugs.

Deletegood morning Melisa.
ReplyDeletethank you for the walk thru the woods. it was so peaceful and beautiful. what are May apples? i have never heard of them before. the foliage and all the trees are gorgeous. i want to move there. what state do you live in? it's amazing.
did you get your "maters" planted yesterday? what types did you plant?
i hope you have an amazing Wednesday. i'm going to water my house plants today (tomatoes and geraniums were done yesterday). it's going to be another warm day - mid 70's. that's about as hot as i can do. after that it's time for the air conditioner. i imagine where you live just sitting outside would be magnificent when the heat begins to creep up. do you get a nice breeze? i love the cool air on my face when i go out on my porch at different times of the day. it feels so good.
blessings and love are coming your way. thank you so much for the beautiful morning walk i got to go on this morning. i enjoyed every part of it.
a great big squeezy hug is squeezing you right now. i hope you feel it.

Good morning, dear Debra . I hope you have been having a very lovely week. We finally most of our veggies into the ground right before the rains. Good timing . Right? I planted 2 varieties of Tommy Toes , Beefsteak and Better Boy tomatoes. I still want to get some Cherokee Purples though. How are you mater plants doing? Isn't the May apple plants pretty neat. I am not sure what they are good for, but they grow all around us here in the woods in my part of TN. It sounds like you are having some nice Spring weather; I like it on the mild side. One day this week , it got into the 80's but now that the rains have set in , it is back in the 70's. During the summertime, it gets hot and muggy here and the mosquitoes will eat you alive. LOL. I wish you a wonderful fun filled weekend. Big hugs from the holler.
DeleteThanks Donna P for sharing what that plant was. . what an interesting plant! I love the shadow of the leaves on the tree trunk in the last photo. Have a wonderful trip!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWasn't that interesting, Terry? I have never heard of that plant and this was the 1st time I had seen one. I am going to keep my eyes out the next time I explore the woods for them. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteIt's so pretty and green there - what a lovely walk in the woods, Melisa! Loved seeing your photos and the interesting sights. Happy Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Diann. The leaves are really coming along- Spring is here . We had great time exploring this little section of the woods. I had never seen the old home site before which was out in the middle of nowhere. Have a wonderful day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a lovely walk in the woods. I can hear the creek. Your pictures capture the feel of the area so well. I looked up your plant and it is Bear Corn and here is a link/video to hear about them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVUwbNfdjDc
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny for sending me to the link to the video. That was very interesting especially learning that bear and deer feed on it. You never know what you will see when you go exploring in the woods. I am always fascinated by the plant life. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs.
DeleteI bet you enjoyed your walk with nature. So much to see and let your curiosity go. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs, hugs and more hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteOh it was a wonderful walk. I had never been to this section of the forest before. I loved seeing the old home site and all of the different creeks running off of the mountain. Have a fabulous weekend Darlene. Super big hugs.
DeleteI always enjoy your walks in the woods, Melisa! I don't go on many anymore as the ticks have gotten so bad here in Pennsylvania. Do you have them down your way, too? My husband had Lyme Disease twice last year and both of us are a bit scared to go into the yard. Very sad!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Carol. We enjoy walking out in the woods. Oh yes, I remember you both getting tested last year for Lyme Disease. I did not know that your DH had it twice. Bless his heart. We have ticks down here too. I have already got 3 off of me this year. I think they are going to be bad this year. I completely understand your apprehension . It is sad that you cannot enjoy your yard fully. The mosquitoes are the worst here. They drive us back into the house by mid-afternoon. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteThanks for taking us along on your little woodland adventure today;))) Lovely photos, Melisa,,
ReplyDeleteI am taking a day of rest here from everything. [sort of..]hahaha
After early morning food shopping, I did though attach my latest Dark Days
star section to the other 3 blocks--cannot keep this old gal from sewing!!.
Hugs, Julierose
A day of rest sounds delightful, Julierose. Everyone needs to take time for themselves. LOL sewing is in our blood; it is hard not to pick up the needle and thread isn't it. Sounds like a perfect day. Thank you for the sweet visit. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs.
DeleteIt all looks so calm and peaceful.
ReplyDeleteOh it was, Jenny. We enjoyed our afternoon immensely . Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteThank you for these beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteAaah you are so welcome and thank you , Annelies for joining me on the stroll through the forest. Enjoy your weekend. Hugs.
DeleteJealous of your wonderful walk! Thanks for taking us with you :) I remember the days of my youth, traipsing through the woods without a care in the world. Now I worry about snakes, mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers LOL
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we have all of those creepy crawlies here too. Every time we go out in the woods, hubby is telling me to watch where I walk because he is afraid I will step on a rattlesnake. And the chiggers and mosquitoes will eat you alive . But luckily , we did not get attacked on this day. LOL . Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteThank you for the woodland adventure today :)
ReplyDeleteAaw you are so welcome, Sharon and thank you for coming along. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteLovely woodland photos, Melisa. Has it been a settlement there? Reminds me of where I grew up.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Astrid. I believe the house site that we saw was from the 1800's . This area is all wooded and secluded now- a great place to explore and enjoy nature. We had a great time. I am so happy it brought back fond memories of where you grew up- that just warms my heart. Hugs.
DeleteI miss the woods and enjoyed your post so much! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI am so touched that you enjoyed this little post, Betty. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was a lovely day to be out and about exploring . Warm hugs.
DeleteIt's always so nice to take a walk when things are freshly green and it's not yet hot like summer. Wonderful photographs.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I agree, Kate. By summertime this area will be fully overgrown and it will be so hot and muggy. We were able to beat the mosquitoes and enjoy a day out and about . Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteBeautiful and peaceful!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Brenda. All we heard was the gentle rustling of the leaves and the trickling of the creek. It was a great day. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteLooks like a fun place for a walk.
