Let's Start with Dessert!!!

Good morning, Sweetie Pies!!! Welcome!!!  Welcome!!!

Grab you a slice of Aunt Bea's Buttermilk Pie while we sit and chat a bit .  I think it is perfectly fine to start the day off with dessert. Don't you? 😃

It is supposed to be a glorious 80 degrees today. Fingers crossed it gets that warm.  Is it starting to warm up in your neck of the woods?  I sure hope so.   There are a few flowers in bloom here.

I have high hopes to finish a cross stitch and then work on my Summer Days quilt today. I still need to add the borders. Summer Days has been languishing since August of last year. Lol.

Not a lot accomplished on the quilting  front this week but every little stitch counts. Right?

Fabrics were pulled for a new block.

Auntie's Signal is complete ! This is the 3rd block in Barbara Brackman's free Atlanta Garden QAL which  she is posting on her blog Civil War Quilts Blog

I wracked my brain on which colors to use and where. Barbara had so many lovely examples of the blocks that it was hard to decide.

Barbara gave an "Introduction to  the Atlanta Garden BOM" in her December 21, 2022 post along with information on the alternate blocks and yardage.

More scrap piecing for future tulip blocks.

Green scraps pieced for a future applique project.

Now  how about that buttermilk pie?

Years ago, my daughter had a barn wedding . For the reception, we had a large farm  table filled with all kinds of pies. Buttermilk Pie was one of the  favorites.  Whenever we happen to have buttermilk in the fridge, we have to whip this simple pie up.

Aunt Bea's Buttermilk Pie

INGREDIENTS:

 1 1/2 cups of sugar

1 cup of buttermilk

1/2 cup of Bisquick ( biscuit mix)

1/3 cup of butter, melted

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

3 eggs

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a pie pan. Mix all of the ingredients in a large bowl with a hand mixer. Pour in the pie dish. Bake 50 minutes. Cool and enjoy!

So what will you be working on today? I hope you fill you day with something fabulous.

As Always....

Happy stitching, Ya'll

Melisa

Pie makes all things better.

Hugs and Stitches!!!!

Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy. I love and miss you, Amo.

I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.

  1. I used to have a whole collection of Bisquick recipes. Spinach quiche was my favorite and always turned out perfectly. Egg custard pie was a favorite years ago -- my ex-husband's grandmother would always make two -- one for her and one just for me. I like your quilt blocks -- really love pattern and color mixing. You are always so crafty and creative. Have a good Friday.

    1. Aaaw what sweet memories, Tammy. I haven't had spinach quiche in years. I am going to have to see if I can find a Bisquick recipe for it. It would make it a lot quicker. Thank you so much for dropping by for a sweet visit. Have a wonderful day. Hugs

  4. Thank you for this recipe! I don't keep buttermilk on hand, but when I do buy it for something I never seem to be able to use up what's left. This is a perfect recipe for that purpose.

  6. That pie sounds so easy. I don't like buttermilk, but I do like buttermilk biscuits, so I should love the pie, right? I know, roots in TN and never had buttermilk pie! LOL Thanks for the reminder about that BOM. I need to catch up. I keep getting distracted by squirrels!

  8. Oh I LOVE buttermilk pie. I've never seen it made with Bisquick though and imagine it is fantastic. Thanks for sharing the recipe...I'll give it a try. Love your blocks. We've had a warm day in the mountains of western North Carolina...75 degrees. Of course, I'll be complaining its too hot next week while we are in Florida.

  10. Pie for breakfast sounds good to me... but I'd probably prefer apple -- you know a serving of fruit. 🤣🤣 You are doing well keeping up with your BOM. I decided to skip the one I did last year. I like your Summer Days quilt. It looks great in red, white and blue.

  12. I's been quite a while since I've had buttermilk pie. Yum! Even with a few warmer days and a tulip and crocus trying to bloom, we had snow again yesterday! Some day Winter will just give up, I hope. I am going to try to work on a Green & Yellow quilt today. The dessert plates by the pie are just too cute! Are all the animals on them different? Your Atlanta Garden blocks are looking really good.

    1. Buttermilk Pie ranks as one of my favorites though we do not have it that often. Oh yes, Mr. Pinker got me those little dessert plates for Valentines. They each have different farm animals on them. They are from the Pioneer Woman. He wasn't able to get the plate with the cowgirl boot on it though. A sweet green and yellow quilt sounds so lovely and perfect for a spring project. I do hope you will be able to enjoy the warmth of the sun soon. Winter seems to be hanging on in some places this year. Stay warm and cozy. Hugs.

  15. Oh, what a wide array of fun things here! I love the rwb Churn Dash. And I like the looks of your Atlanta garden and the fabrics you have used. I'd sew along but I still have a very old Barbara Brackman cw sampler not put together yet. I have an old cookbook collection but I don't think I ever ran across buttermilk pie before. Maybe I ignored it because I don't like and never have buttermilk. If I do make something with buttermilk I just add vinegar to milk to make buttermilk substitute. A lot of my cookbooks are ones produced by women of various churches who used any excuse to have a potluck and exchange recipes.

    1. Oh thank you so much, Cathy. I have really enjoyed working on Barbara's QAL. This is the 1st one I have done and so far it has been easy to work on. Oooh , I just love cookbooks especially church cookbooks. They are always choked full of good recipes. Buttermilk pie tastes a lot like chess pie. We don't have buttermilk often , but when we do this pie is a must do. Oh yes, I use vinegar and milk too - a great and cheap substitute which I love. Thank you for the sweet visit.
