Happy , happy Thursday, sweet friends.
Well , I am heading out to the pig barn to show you my latest finish. No piggies to show today, but there she is -Edna!!π΄❤
Ole' Edna was not interested coming up to the barn to see my newest finish, but oh well, she just missed out. I may have given her a treat if she had came ! Hee! Hee!
Anywhoo! Darlene's quilt top is complete!!!
Excuse me a moment while I do the happy dance!!!!ππΊππΊ
This quilt was inspired by my dear friend, Darlene ( Hi, Darlene)π€ . She created a small quilt with teeny pinwheels, and I had to create my own.
My blocks were 8" finished. I used 30 blocks and pieced a 4" border around each edge. All of the fabrics were in my stash.
Darlene's Quilt will go into a hoop as soon as a quilt is moved out of a hoop. Oooh I better get my needle and thread to work.
This was such a fun and fast quilt. Thank you so much, Darlene for the inspiration.
Goodness, look who is in the field looking on at the back of my quilt.π I think Edna heard that I might have a treat. "Come here girl! " ( Nah , she didn't come.)
Dora and Blackie paid me no mind though.
Well, I haven't shared a thrift store haul lately. So I thought I would show you some of my latest finds. Oh bummer - no thrifty quilt finds this time.
I did however add to my Pflatzgraff cup collection. Mr. Pinker jokes that we will never run out of cups. Hmmm I think he is right. ππ€
And look at this little guy. He is old , chippy and a little rough, but boy did he grab my heart. This Gilner Cookie Jar dates to back to the 1940-1950's. The glazing inside is gorgeous . I thought he would look perfect with my bee decor. What do you think?
Now I refuse any intervention on my bowl addiction. πππ
Yes, I added another bowl to my teetering stack of Pioneer Woman and Pyrex bowls. I just could not resist the red Pyrex mixing bowl for less than a dollar. Now I know you wouldn't pass that up . Would you? π₯£ π
Well, y'all I don't want to chat your ears off so I guess I will let you go. The grandbabes will be here soon, and I am sure they will have some tales to tell .
Before you go- Do you know what this flower is? It is a volunteer in my garden and is in bloom now. Is it a weed?
Have a beautiful day, Sweetie Pies. Now go out and do something you love!!!!
Love ya' ❤❤
As always...
Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all
Melisa
Beautiful things come together one stitch at a time.
Hugs and Stitches!!!!π€π§΅❤
Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy . I love and miss you Amo.❤❤❤
I am joining these lovely ladies' link parties. I hope you check them out; they always have so many wonderful projects going on and provide the opportunity for other needleworkers to meet.
Those white flowers look like asters. Wild flower, some might call a weed LOL
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, dear not only for identifying the blooms but also for the sweet Thursday visit. These flowers just popped up in the flower bed and I was not sure what they were, but it is nice to see a few blooms as all of the other flowers die back. Have a beautiful day.
DeleteI put the picture through Google Lens - it also came up as an aster - called a panicled aster. I love google lens - you can take pictures of all kind of unknown things and it will search for it.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to have the entire set of Pyrex bowls - those thing lasted forever!
Blessings!
Oh thank you so much, Donna. I am going to have to explore how to use and add google lens to my phone. This is the 1st time I had seen these flowers in the beds before. It is nice to know what they are. Oh I just love Pyrex and mixing bowls . Lol. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteYour pinwheel quilt is lovely! Sorry your barn yard buddies weren't very cooperative, even for a treat. You have lots of fun thrifty finds. That bear is really cute. He'd be fun with Christmas decor too.
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun working on the Pinwheel quilt. It has been my leader/ ender project for a few months until I was ready to go ahead and finish it up . I am looking forward to putting in the hoop soon. Oh the bear would look darling out for Christmas too. Thank you for the idea, Kate and for the sweet visit. Have a super day. Hugs
DeleteYour newest quilt is great! Do you know how you'll quilt it yet? Long stitched Baptist fan would look nice. I would have bought the red bowl also for $1, that was a great price! I need to look closer at my local thrift shop, it's always so busy though and I don't like crowds. Have a blessed day, happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much , Gretchen for the great quilting idea. I hadn't thought about it, but I have been quilting my Easter quilt in the Baptist fan and I just love it. I will right a note and add that to my quilt so I can remember. You never know what you will find at the thrift store. I try to just go once a week, but I could go every day. Thankfully I do not live close to it. Lol. Happy Thursday.
DeleteThose are some great thrift store finds...my fave thing to do and which I'm off to spend some time doing today. I try to take some donations every time I go too. Your quilt top is lovely and congrats on a huge part of the finish. Looking forward to seeing your new stitch when it's done. Have a good day doing what you love.
ReplyDeleteOh Betty, I sure hope you find lots of great thrifty finds in your search for treasures today. Of course there is always the thrill of the hunt isn't there? Lol. I am hoping to go tomorrow. Thank you so much for the sweet compliment on my new quilt. I am over the moon with it . I think I will finish my stitch today and then hopefully FFO it . Have a beautiful day, dear. Hugs.
DeleteMorning Melisa. Love your new quilt. So glad we got to see Edna and her friends also. I can’t wait to see your new house finished turkey and all. Happy stitching sweetie, enjoy your day with those grandbabies. π€π§‘
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, dear Patti. I hope your day is going well. It has been a nice day here in the holler with a bit of stitching and quilting going on and soon the grandbabes will be here- then the real fun starts. Lol. I had a ball working on the Darlene's quilt and can not wait to get it completed. It was fun to use some of my reproduction fabrics as well. Have an awesome day, dear. Hugs.
DeleteWhen I saw your finished top, I wondered, like Gretchen, how you would quilt it. . .with Baptist fans?? How interesting we would think along the same line! I too would have purchased a red bowl for a buck. . .after all I do love red. . .Edna is quite photogenic. She is a beauty.--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Terry. I hadn't not figured out how to quilt it yet, but I love the idea of the Baptist Fan pattern and I think I will do just that. Thank you and Gretchen so much for the sweet suggestion and encouragement. Oh I just love taking photos of Edna ; she has quite the personality. Lol. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteYour newest house is looking good. Yay for getting your quilt top finished; can't wait to see it quilted! That bear cookie jar looks right at home with your bees, Melisa! Score!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday, Robin. I hope you are having a great day and are able to get in a bit of stitching. I have been working on my house and hope to finish it today. I debated on the little bear cookie jar, but then I thought about my bee hutch and decided to get it. Lol. Have an wonderful day. Hugs.
DeleteOh boy a new quilt to play with on finishing and new treasures!! I had the set of 4 Pyrex ones and loved the big yellow one--it was perfect for mixing up my homemade bread--I did sell my set when I moved to Florida back in 2015--had to sell alot of my country stuff and collections--miss it all--but----
ReplyDeletehugs, di
Good afternoon, Di and Happy Thursday. I had a great time making the pinwheel quilt and using my reproduction fabrics. Oh, I bet it broke your heart to have sell some of your country collection especially the Pyrex bowls- they are so well made, but I know it is a necessity sometimes to pare down especially when there is moving involved. Thank you for the sweet visit . Enjoy your day. Hugs.
DeleteLove your pinwheel quilt, Melisa!!! And always love seeing a glimpse of Edna, even from afar!!!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Nancy for the sweet Thursday visit. I think Edna was just too busy eating her lunch to get a photo with my quilt on this day. Lol. Have a great afternoon, and happy quilting.
DeleteI just love love ❤️ all of your posts! And thank you so much for your generosity in sharing your patterns. They are all my favorites!
ReplyDeleteAaah you are just so kind and uplifting. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Such kindness gives me the encouragement to continue on and that means the world to me. I hope you enjoy the little freebies. Hugs.
DeleteIt's only a weed if you don't want it. I'd want it! Edna is just being stubborn and doing what my mother used to say - cutting of her nose to spite her face. Did your mom say that, too? Being snooty didn't get her a treat, now did it? The pinwheel looks great - love that it was made from scraps you had. Your collections are wonderful, and less than a dollar for the pyrex bowl? A Steal!
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Susan. I was thinking about you today . I hope you are doing well. It has been a lovely day here ; the rain has not come yet. I do not know if it skirted us and headed your way or not. Thank you so much for telling me about the flower. It just recently began blooming and I wondered what it was- even weeds are pretty aren't they? Lol my mom did say that . I want out to the farm today and Edna was waiting at the fence for me. She is a jewel. LOL. Have a wonderful weekend. sweet friend. Hugs.
DeleteI love your Pinwheel Quilt, Melisa. Such wonderful colors. I'm glad you enjoyed making it. And, I agree with you the bear needs to be added to your bee decor. Cute, cute, cute!!
ReplyDeleteOh , I enjoyed every minute working on it, Darlene. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I am looking forward to quilting it very soon. Lol I think the bear will quite cozy with the bees. Hee! Hee! Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteYes - it's an Aster, but I had not seen a white one before - They are usually lilac (pale purple), and it is an autumn flower.
ReplyDeleteOh how interesting and thank you for letting me know. I have never seen it in my beds before and was not sure what it was. I will certainly keep my eye out for it next year around this time of the year. Hmmm. I wonder if it will come back. Thank you for the sweet visit, dear . Hugs.
DeleteYes, it's an aster. I have also mostly seen them in a lavender shade. People do grow them here in my area for Fall color. I have to say that I find new things in your pictures all the time and I just saw the orange bubble light. Is it attached to the Halloween decoration it is on and does it work? How cool! Your pinwheel quilt is so sweet in the Repro fabrics. Old traditional pattern in old timey fabrics. Such a fitting pairing. Looking forward to seeing the new house come Thursday. You bear looks to be licking his lips so putting him in with the bees and honey comb is perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny for letting me know about the flowers. I am going to keep my eye for them next year. I am not sure how it come to find its way into my bed, but glad it is here to enjoy. Aaah the bubble light- oh yes it works and I love to look at it . I wish I had turned it on when I snapped the photo. I thought the bear was holding a pot of honey until I got home and cleaned him up, but he certainly looks hungry doesn't he? Lol . I hope you have a great weekend. Hugs.
DeleteSave the spent flowers to dry and you will have seeds for planting and having them on purpose!
DeleteCute pinwheel quilt. I have not been to a thrift store or garage or estate sale since I retired about 7 years ago. I miss those days of bargain hunting but I don't need to add to any of my collections anymore I guess. And I have those wild asters growing everywhere - sometimes they are a light blue or light pink but usually just white. My daughter has a collection of vintage Halloween things. It's her fav holiday and her daughter was born on Halloween.
ReplyDeleteAah thank you so much, Cathy. I am over the moon to have the pinwheel quilt pieced- now to get it in a hoop. Oh I do not need to go to the thrift store either. I have cut down on going out over the years, but I still go every week or two just to see. Oh how fun that your granddaughter was born on Halloween. How special!
DeleteAster and the bees/insects love it as do the birds. They will self seed! My garden is too full of them right now but they are so appreciated.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much for telling me about them. I am so glad to hear that they will self seed and that the bees and birds like them- I always welcome them to the garden. I am glad I snapped a photo so I will remember what the asters look like for next year. Have a blessed day.
DeleteBeautiful, Melisa!! Good to see all the animals! I bet if you took an ear of corn with you, ole Edna would come a runnin'!! LOL I love those Pflatzgraff cups you found! They remind me of the old blue china my mom used to have. I loved that stuff!
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to take an ear of corn to Edna next time I come out. I know that if I took Elmer one he would come running; he loves sugar cubes. LOL. I was over the moon to find the cups. I have slowly been building up my Pfatzgraff collection. Oooh I love blue willow too. It is probably my favorite. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteOh sweet Edna... stinker all the way!! Your pinwheel is Beautiful!! Love all the different fabrics in it!! I used to quilt for a lady with the last name of Pflatzgraff... I had no idea she was a cup too!! haha
ReplyDeleteLol Edna is a stinker. We never know what she is going to do. Hee! Hee! I had a ball working on the pinwheel quilt. So glad it is pieced and ready for the hoop. Have an awesome day, Alycia and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteYou are master thrifter. Must say that red pyrex bowl with the pour spout looked very tempting. Congratulations on finishing your Darlene top.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Gwyned. I think I came by it naturally- my grandmothers were both very thrifty and liked to thrift. I was over the moon to find the bowl and eeh it was red too! Lol. Hugs and blessings.
