Stitching Kindness, Summer Days and a Bee Trifle

Good evening, ya'll  and Happy Thursday. Mr. Pinker and I made it to our camping spot on the lake. Same spot as before.

Yep, there is the big ole' log right below our site.

Today I spent a few hours going to some of my favorite thrift stores. I will show you my wee haul in a future post when I get home. Afterwards, we have been lounging at the campsite. It is a lot quieter than it was in May when we were here.

Well anywhoo! I thought I would share some of the projects that I brought along to keep my busy.

My Summer Days Quilt is coming along.

Before you look at my quilt photo, get on your galloping horse as you view it. πŸŽπŸ‡πŸ‘€πŸ™«  . I am hoping that if you are riding ole' Trixie that you will miss that points are cut off , or seams do not meet. But hey, I am ok with that.

All the blocks are pieced, and now to find border fabric.

This quilt will get a good pressing when I get home.

It was a bit windy for photos, but I thought I would try.

I will certainly take better photos when  I am home.

If you missed these blocks, I shared them over several weeks on for my Embroidery Thursday projects.

Click here and you will be taken back to the last Summer Days post that I posted and  within that post you will find links to all of the blocks for your viewing or stitching pleasure . πŸ‘€πŸ˜€  You can also search for Summer Days Quilt in the sidebar which will provide a link to all of the posts.

Now that I have the blocks pieced , I regret that I did not add a camper to the mix. Well I guess that means that in the future there needs to be a Summer Days Quilt #2 . Don't you? Lol.

Weeks ago,   dear Barbara told me about Susan Ache's free Stitching Kindness SAL. I had to hop over to the Auribuzz website to get a gander.

I became quite smitten as soon as I saw Susan's quilt which is  in pretty reds and whites .

Before Mr. Pinker and I left on our June vacation, I printed off weeks' 1 & 2 patterns.  One evening while camping at Big Ridge State Park, I traced out the cutting lines and words and made an afternoon of stitching as Mr. Pinker fished. Over the last few weeks, I have been finishing up the embroidery.  I am using 2 strands of DMC 498 using the back stitch. Stitching on this fabric is like stitching through butter.

So Sorry for the poor photo . This was taken in the evening.

If you hop over to the Auribuzz website, you will also see other stitchers' progress. I have seen these lovely words stitched in blues and other colors. So pretty!

The Schedule for Susan's SAL is below .Just click on the date and the link will take you to that week's stitching pattern.  The link I provided above takes you to the May 26th Introduction post .   I hope you hop over and take a look at her quilt for  it is so pretty.

Before you leave, I would love to leave you with a teeny trifle of a stitch. This is Bee Skep Trifle. I have it hanging on my Summer Sunflower tree which I shared last week.

Do any of ya'll remember those vintage silk Christmas balls? The yellow ones were perfect for my sunflower tree.

Ok,  I digress. Back to the stitch. I had to add a bee skep to my trifle collection.  Now this trifle is teeny with a design size around 19 x 21. Not big at all, but that does make for a quick stitch.

Click here for the Bee Skep Trifle.

This is a "Choose your Own Colors" chart , but if you are interested  I used DMC 975  ( for the bench) , 781, 433, 3371 , 3346.
Have you seen my other trifles? I have a lot and hope to add more in the future. These are great to use up teeny scraps of fabric and bits of floss.
 Other trifles I have posted.

I  showed how to finish a trifle in  a previous post . Click FINISHING A TRIFLE to find my humble instructions.

The Ole' Crow Saltbox - A Saltbox Freebie

Good afternoon, ya'll.  I have a new saltbox to share with you. I sure hope that you like it.  I have had a hankering to create another yellow saltbox with one of  my favorite birds- crows.

I know . I know . I have the tendency to stick crows in a lot of my stitches, but they are just so darn cute in my eyes. Lol  This is The Ole' Crow Saltbox.

It is reminiscent of the Crow Creek Saltbox but this one has some very gigantic sunflowers surrounding it.🌻

Crow Creek Saltbox

Did you notice some of the windows are different sizes?

I had a ball stitching it. I used some of the same colors that I used in my Basket of Honeysuckle . Can I say that DMC 730 is becoming one of my new favorite greens?  Any whoo! If you are interested in stitching The Ole' Crow Saltbox, please check out the links below where you will find jpgs.

Many of you know , but I always like to leave this little disclaimer.

I stitch my little designs for fun and to decorate my home. I feel very blessed by this community and love sharing my little charts, but I am not a professional designer. And I do not have professional software. Thank you for understanding that I  have to put each page on separate links because of the devices I use. I apologize for that.  These are images of the chart  or JPG s and not downloads.   I am always grateful for your kind encouragement , your visits, and for stitching my little designs.

Click here for the Black and White chart.

I included an alphabet for your initials but it would be cute to stitch up as a wee sampler too.

I finished the little sampler on a thrifted chalk paddle board. I added a line of dashes underneath the letters "V, W, X, Y, Z" to fill in a bit more  of the space. I hope to change out other pieces on this paddleboard.  Eeeeh ! I am over the moon with it though I do need to clean up my chalking. Lol.

Happy Thread the Needle Day- A Basket Freebie

Hello there , Sunshine and Happy Thread the Needle  Day. Isn't this just a grand day to celebrate?

Do you have any plans to celebrate this special day? I will certainly have needle and thread in hand .

Last year I shared Needle and Thread

Well I just knew I had to create another piece to go with it. This one is called Grandma Annie's Sewing Basket.

It is a teeny basket with a needle , thread, pincushion and of course a pair of scissors.

If you are interested , please check out the links to the jpgs .

Click here for the instruction page.

I actually have my Great grandma's sewing basket.  You wanta take a lookie inside?

Lots of sewing and trinkets inside.

I am sure most of these items are a mix of Grandma Annie's and Nanny's belongings.

Threads , hoops, pins, and foreign tokens.

Zippers, buttons, bookmark, scissors, crochet hooks . Gotta have a comb.

Yes, that is a bullet ! Was Grandma Annie toting? πŸ˜€ Probably just  scooped up when cleaning pockets.

Scissors, sea shell, threads wrapped around nails and screws.

Cloisonne frame with a vintage label in it.

It is so interesting to look at the goodies in old sewing baskets. Don't you agree?

Edna Viola's Saltbox

So what do  you have in your sewing basket? Thank you for the sweet visit and as always...

Happy quilting and stitching, ya'll

Back in the Game

Howdy doo, my friends! TGIF! Woo Hoo! I am back in the game!

What game you ask? Well I have pretty much  been missing and not in action in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. But I am back on board - at least for this week.  I have to admit though, this gal copied somebodies homework to get in the game 😲. "Oh no you didn't !", some of you are saying.  Yep I did!
Last week, I was happily visiting dear Jenny 's blog at Romany Quilting where she shared the cutest purple blocks  that she was working.  They are called Little Bricks.

Isn't this purple fabric so pretty?

Jenny's blocks danced in my head for days and then I did it! I sauntered up to the quilt room , found a few scraps of purple fabrics and lickety split in no time I had 12 blocks. Really they were that quick.   Later , I even pieced some green ones.

If you jump over to Jenny's blog, she will give you a link as  to where she found the blocks and the measurements which was at Sylvia's of Treadlestitches , plus you can drool over her lovely blocks and Sylvia's as well.

So that is my story of how Jenny and Sylvia got me back into the game.  Thank you so much, ladies. Hmm! I wonder what they are up to today? πŸ€”πŸ˜ƒ

I also have been working on HST. I have a turquoise quilt in mind.

Sunflowers are blooming on my seasonal tree. It is still a work in progress, but it is getting well packed with mid summer goodness.

Well that's my Friday ramblings. Have a beautiful evening, my friends.

As always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, ya'll

Melisa

Failure doesn't mean the game is over; it means try again with experience.
