Homestead Blessings and Pear Butter- A Little Quilt

I am playing with four patches today!

Happy Friday y'all. Are you ready for the weekend? I sure am. Tomorrow Mr. Pinker and I will be going to a tractor pull ,meanwhile I am going to spend the whole  day working in the quilting room.  Woo Hoo! Fun! Fun! Fun!

Mr. Pinker is away at a Beekeeping class so we are both doing something we enjoy. Right?

Hive Sweet Hive,  Bee Balm, and Be Blessed is a freebie from my sweet friend  Vicki at , Stitchy McFloss blogspot

As I was rummaging through my scrap bags, I found 11 lone four patches that I created awhile back just itching to be placed into a little quilt.  These little four patches are made of 1 1/2" squares.
After some contemplation, I cut some more fabrics and laid out the pieces for a wee quilt.

Auditioning a layout using 10 of the found four patches.

I am not posting a tutorial, but these are the cutting measurements that I used just in case you would like to  make one. ๐Ÿ˜€
Strips are cut for Pear Butter.

CUTTING FOR THIS QUILT:
20 - 1 1/2" brown squares for four patches
20 1 1/2" yellow squares for four patches
14- 2 1/2 " green squares
2-  2 1/2" x 8 1/2" burgundy fabric rectangles for  top and bottom borders
2-  2 1/2" x 10 1/2 burgundy fabric rectangles for right and left borders

The four patch center of the mini quilt is all pieced. Time to add the corner blocks and  borders.  I webbed mine together.

The center is pieced . Time to add the borders.

It did not take long before the little four patch quilt was pieced.

I think I will call it Pear Butter. It reminds me of my Green Apple Butter that I shared a couple of years ago.

Green Apple Butter quilt made from 4 patches.

Pear Butter will be going into the hoop soon.

In the background is "A Pumpkin and a Crow" and upcoming freebie and  Autumn at Sunflower Ridge by The Woolly Ewe

I will be dyeing fabric today for this little design called "Homestead Blessings".

  1. The pear butter little quilt is adorable. Sweet four patches found in a plastic bag - woohoo!!! I found my own plastic bag today with a six stitched Christmas Stamps and floss to do more. I don't remember stitching them. LOL There's enough fabric to stitch more Christmas Stamps so after I did a handful of chores, I started stitching number 7. While I was stitching some Halloween designs, I stitched the ghost, and I love him. I need to set aside a day to do some serious finishing. Not my favorite thing to do. Ugh, ugh and ugh. BTW, your zucchini, squash and fish look very yummy. Enjoy the tractor pull with Mr P. Big Hugs, DarleneJ

  2. Good morning dear Melisa, our cat just woke us at 4am and since I couldn't fall back asleep I thought let's see if Melisa has a new blog post and sure enough! You never disappoint! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ What a cute little quilt! I have tons of leftover fabric squares...some of them might end up in such a little quilt ๐Ÿ˜…
I'm SO excited for the pumpkin and crow freebie!! ๐Ÿฆ‍⬛๐ŸŽƒ We have a raven that visits our yard daily to see if we left him a duck egg snack ๐Ÿ˜„ My husband named him Brandon and we like keeping him around because his presence keeps avian predators away from our ducks. So we have a deal...he visits and we share eggs with him in return ๐Ÿฅฐ Nature is fascinating!

Anywho, since I'm still a bit jetlagged I might just get up and stitch on the blue house some more ๐Ÿ˜Š

    Happy Friday! Hugs from Maine,
    Alex

  6. good morning beautiful Melisa.
i hope everything is going well for you today while Mr. Pinker is at his beekeeping class. looks like you have a very lovely table topper completed in Pear Butter. i love it. i have the same yellow and brown fabrics. they are old fabrics Miss Melisa. i love it!!! you're a hoarder just like me. i did purge quite a bit in my recent sewing room cleanup.
sounds like you are going to have an amazing day tomorrow with your tractor pull. what is that exactly? do tractors pull different tractors? sounds like a muddy day. i don't know why i always associate tractors with mud.
thank you for the cute, cute, cute ghost and cat stamp. i already had the pumpkins. love it. good thing i purchased my ream of paper yesterday.
your zucchini, squash and fish dish looks yummy. i think i would use chicken. i don't eat anything that comes from the ocean. i'm weird that way. i just never acquired a taste for anything fishy. i did prepare and eat a piece of red snapper one time. it stunk up my house something awful and my taste buds didn't take a liking to it. perhaps it wasn't the best type of fish to cook and eat first time out. i used to eat albacore tuna - i do put albacore tuna (from a can) in macaroni salad. the pieces are so tiny that i can't taste a thing. i like the onions, celery, eggs, and noodles best. do i sound wishy-washy? i don't mean, too. i guess it must be monday, no wait it's friday. better straighten up - i've got many hours ahead of me.
i'm off to take lola, my blind chihuahua, on a walk. lola developed diabetes a little over a year ago and the diabetes produced her blindness. she is on insulin twice a day. dogs get the same insulin that a human does. amazing how it works on dogs, too. lola will be 12 on september 1st. dusty went home yesterday. andrea, my daughter, decided not to drive to washington, but to fly instead. i am so happy about that. i worry about her driving by herself. too scary for a young lady to be driving from california to washington alone in this crazy world.
well i guess i have gotten off track of quilting and cross stitching. sorry about that!!! praying your day is a gorgeous one and that you make many magical memories. rest up young lady, you've got a busy day tomorrow.
blessings and love are coming your way.
    Debra

  7. Pear Butter is going to be a sweet quilt, Melisa! I love how you put those found 4 patches together with other cozy colors to create this look. Gives me a fall vibe! Now you've made me want to dig around in my stash to see if I have something like that to sew up, too. Have a fun weekend!

  10. Good Friday sweet Melisa. Loved your Stamp Parade!! Noticed a piece in your Header of Hall's Superior. I have several pieces of my mothers, including a wonderful Tea Pot with a Loose Tea Insert. My parents both worked for Jewel in Barrington, Illinois. They are heavy and not Microwave safe because of the gold metal trims, but I love them and used them often. Love your wee quilt, just right for a doll to love. Sending warm hugs from sunny Arizona.

  11. What a sweet little quilt! Oh I do love your halloween stamps. So darn cute! A day in the quilting room having fun is a great day. Love that hubby is a bee keeper... I never picked up on that and it explains the cute bees in your stitching.

  15. The pear butter quilt is very cute. Both the pear butter and the apple butter quilts remind me of fall. I need to check my fabric stash - I would love to make both quilts. The Halloween stamps are adorable - I have all 3 patterns printed to stitch next month. Thanks for the Homestead Blessings. Have a great time at the tractor pull. Alicia

  16. Pear Butter is a perfect companion piece to Green Apple Butter, for sure. Pear jam is one of my favorite jams to make. THEN, you go and show me that scrumptious looking fish dinner! If I hadn't already eaten, I would be defrosting some fish right now. It will be dinner tomorrow since my son is gone for the weekend. He won't eat fish and I can eat what I want to while he's gone, so thanks for that little reminder. Ha! Thank you for the sweet little stitch. That will do up really pretty.

  18. A very cute mini quilt, very smart to get those blocks out of the bin and into a project. Your Halloween stamps are darling. I've been AWOL from the computer this week, so I'm playing catch up. Your stamps post was impressive, so many pretty stitcheries.
