Bee Skep Quilt

Good afternoon, my friends. It is another lovely Friday.

 The day is warm, and I am enjoying a day at the lake. 

My Bee Skep quilt has been on quite a journey. It lounged around an old dump dive chest as I spruced up my she shed porch with some sunflowers and apples.

                         

 It then took a journey out to the farm where the buckwheat is in bloom, and the bees are buzzing about - too busy to stop for a photograph . 

 

The Bee Skep got its photo made with the bee box,

                          

 and later on the fence with one of the sheds in the background. 

 

Don't you just love red sheds and barns?

 It later made its way to its home for the month which is on a wreath warmly tucked on a door. 

                                  

This little quilt is made from scraps dating back to the 90's . The skep was strip pieced from scraps and then needle turned appliqued on an 8 1/2" background piece of brown calico gifted to me by a dear friend. 

This basic shape would be great for a gourd quilt or a pear quilt for fall as well. If you would like to create your own scrappy bee skep, you can check out my pdf below or just drawn your own.

Watermelon Stamp- A Summer Freebie

 Well good morning, dear friends. Today is going to be a very busy,  but so much fun. I have been invited to the a neighboring county fair to judge quilts.

 I have been doing this for about 10 years. I was not sure if the fair would take place this year. But Woo Hoo! it is. There is always so many fabulous quilts,  and I always come back pumped up and ready to quilt! 🧵

 Some of the fair exhibits are in an old school building. As soon as I enter the hallway I know I will be greeted with tables upon tables of fruits and vegetables  . Judges will be busy buzzing about determining which  entries are the prize winners.  Oh, what a hard task. Well with that in mind -  I thought I would share my Watermelon Stamp  especially since I am sure I will see some big juicy ones at the fair. 🍉🎡

 Do  you think mine is a prize winner? lol. Well, all that matters is that a watermelon tastes good- isn't that right?  

 I stitched this little design last year . It is a small with a design size of 35 x 35. I stitched mine on   - you guessed it-   my usual 14 count tea / coffee dyed aida. 

 I finished this little stitch on a piece of batting wrapped foam board on a little Dollar Tree chalkboard plaque. I just love those thrifty quick finishes.

Slow Stitching Sunday

Good Sunday morning. May I greet you with some country clutter? Lol.

 A little area that is fixing to be cleared out and changed. These are some of my favorite things, Raggedy Anns and Andys, stitching, wooden items, toys and of course little quilts. 

School started this past week.

 Both grandsons are at the elementary school now, and they love it. 

I made this teeny rug mug on Thursday since the little one was not here to entertain me. I can not believe he is in Pre-K.  

 I finished the binding on last Sunday's little quilt, Family is Everything.

 It is hung in the hall for now.  

On this Slow Stitching Sunday, you will find me quilting on "Fair and Square " a quilt design from Kim Diehl's new book , Simple Whatnots II. 

It is in the hoop ready to be finished.

 Oh, what else can I get into? Orange plaid shirtings are being cut into 1 1/2 " strips.

 I'm thinking lots of four patches for a little quilt. Fall is on my mind. 

What a lovely pile of yellow scraps.

I am going to nose dive into these small strips and see what I can create.Scrappy striping sounds like a lot of fun .

 So my plans on the cross stitch front . Well I pulled out Little House Needleworks, Autumn ABC's this past week,  and I hope to put more stitches in it.

Summer Ewe- A Summer Freebie

Good evening, friends. How is your Saturday? It has been a busy day in my neck of the woods with  the grandbaby's 1st football scrimmage, and since I was out, I had to make a Goodwill trip.

 Many of you have met  Erin Ewe  and Betsy Ewe.

 

 I designed these cute little gals sitting in hats earlier this year.  

 I would love to introduce to you their sister, Summer Ewe. 

                        

She is like her sisters, but she sits in a  woven straw hat which also looks like a basket. Summer sports a sunflower quilt block .

                         

 Of course , you can tell she has already been sunflower picking.  This is another small quick stitch with a design size of only 40 x 37, and if you stitched it on 14 count aida like I did, it would measure about 2 7/8" x 2 5/8". See not big at all. 

I made mine in a simple pillow with some homespun . I then tied a bow from Dollar Tree twine around the seam. I hope to find a little sunflower to tuck in the twine soon.
