New Year, New Starts and Fresh Beginnings - And a Winter Doodle

Happy, Happy New Year's!

Mmm Do you smell that?  The hog jowl and turnip greens are cooking . And is that cornbread in oven? By golly , it is! Soon we will be sitting down  to the table for our traditional New Year's meal.

Grab ya' a plate and join me . πŸ€— I would be delighted if you would. Plus  this gives me the  opportunity to share my New Year's start.

Some of you may remember my   Tumbleweeds  quilt top which I shared in August 2024 . I picked it up for just $15.00 from a thrift store in Alabama. Oooh what a steal!

It is time for this beauty to go into the hoop!

Mr. Pinker hip hopped out of the way as I stretched a vintage sheet and my batting out on the living room floor. It was not long before I had Tumbleweeds all smoothed out and ready to move the hoop in place.

This quilt has a patriotic vibe to it. Don't you think?  - Perfect for our 250th Birthday!

But this is not the only quilt I want to work on this year.

4 QUILTS I WANT TO MAKE PROGRESS ON THIS YEAR

🧡1. Alabama Beauty- I bought this quilt a few years ago at the 2023 Worlds' Longest Yard Sale. I have been as slow as molasses about quilting it , but it has been a joy to work on for  a few minutes each week. Hmm. Should I finish it this year? I just may try and do that!

🧡2. Pretty in Peach Butterflies- I began this quilt in 2025  while in Arizona. It is my 3rd quilt in memory of my sweet baby sister. I want to complete it this year.

🧡3. Peppermint Pinwheels- Now this quilt top makes my heart go thumpity thump! ❤❤❤ I am super excited and hope to have it in the hoop this year. Perhaps by July.

🧡 4. Rainbow Sherbet-  And last but certainly not least ole' Rainbow Sherbet which has been hanging in the mix for a few years now. I sure would like to get at least 1/2 of it quilted. We shall see though.

Now that I have my quilting resolutions over with,  let's talk about embroidery. I have a hankering to start a new project.  Soooo...  Frosty Chill is a perfect little doodle to kick start my year.  I am embroidering Frosty Chill on a 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of white fabric.

A little doodle just for you. πŸ’™☃❄

My little doodles are hand drawn and are never perfect. ❤

Alrighty , Sweeties. The cornbread is piping hot. We better chow down. Thank you for joining me as we welcome in the new year.

  5. Happy New Year, My Friend! Thank you for the new doodle. So Cute! I've been trying to kit up some cross stitch projects and I have a quilt I need to repair. Beyond that, we'll see! Our dinner consists of a roast, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and a salad to ring in the new year. May this year be a blessing to you and you a blessing to others (which you already are!) Blessings!

  15. happy new year beautiful Melisa.
i cannot believe i made it out of 2025 in one piece - i would say with my sanity, but that at this point is questionable. i cannot wait to see what 2026 brings. i know it is going to be a hallelujah sister new year. please tell all of your family happy new year 2026 for me. i am sending you all a great big squeezy bear hug. praying for health and happiness all year long. of course, we have to include the wonderful "L" word - love, love, love and by the words of John Lennon:
    All you need is love
    All you need is love
All you need is love, love
    Love is all you need
Amen sista!!! are you singing that song in your head right now! gotcha - i know you are crafty Melisa. get the whole family singing.
can i please get your recipe for your luscious looking mac n cheese? um um good. i make it with a wiggly noodle. i'm sure the elbow macaroni is just as delicious - if not more so.
you will accomplish your goals this year lovely Melisa. i just know it. i don't have any quilting goals - just get started and get something finished for cryin out loud. i'm a procrastinator. start and then start something else and then go back to what i started - nope let's start this. heehee - really it's not funny, but i chalk it up to OCD. that's my story and i'm stickin' to it!!!
i am going to start your Frosty Chill embroidery blocks. the blocks when done are all so adorable on your other quilts that this year it's a must i get something done, done, done!!!
well, Melisa i am going to let you go and eat your delicious New Year's Day 2026 meal with your amazing family. my son and two daughters are all in Arizona this year. two of them live there year round and my oldest daughter bought a second home there.
blessings and love are on the way to you Melisa. have a wonderful day and we pledge to each other to have a happy happy new year 2026.
    hugs sweet lady.

  18. I am finishing up a quilt right now. Just stitching up the back side binding and then it's on to something new. I am loving the Alabama Beauty pattern and just might do that one. What do you think about doing this with Christmas fabrics? Your meal sounds delish. Ours was always homemade chinese egg rolls but my mojo just wasn't;t up to it this year. Here's to a wonderful crafty 2026 (nwpaintedlady)
