The turkeys are coming ! The turkeys are coming!"
Mr. Pinker jumped up and looked out the window. " I do not see any turkeys, "he replied.
๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
"No, Silly. It is November! "
"Oh, " Mr. Pinker said with a nod. He knew what that usually means. "Mmmm was that a hint ? Do you want me to help you get out your Thanksgiving decorations from the attic?"
Happy November, Sweet friends!
Politely, I smiled. "Nope, not today. I have other plans. See, I have a collection of fabrics. "
"Aaw " said Mr. Pinker. "You do your thing. I am going to do mine. I am off to make some jerky . " And with that Mr. Pinker headed to the kitchen to begin the process of making a good supply of venison jerky for him and the grandsons.
"Time to get to work, " I said to my thrifted Santa who was patiently waiting by my stack of fabrics.
It did not take long for me to have an array of 2 1/2" strips in reds, browns and taupes.
2 1/2" strips cut.
My mind was brewing over a simple, small quilt to hang on my Hoosier cabinet.
From the kitchen, I could here the hustle and bustle of Mr. Pinker clanking bowls about. " You need any help, Hun?" I called.
"Nah, you just enjoy working on your quilt. " he replied back. I smiled. Such a good fella.
With that I went back to the task at hand and cut the strips into 2 1/2" squares . Then I began to play with the layout. Gosh, I have already wrinkled my fabrics by manhandling them.๐๐
After a good pressing, it did not take long to sew those little squares into a wee quilt top. But I just knew I wanted to do something else to it. Hmmm a gingerbread would suit my fancy. I ever so carefully cut out a gingerbread man from a scrap of dark brown calico.
Soooo... to make a long story short.๐ That brings me to my slow stitch project today... I will be appliqueing this little fella to the quilt and then adding some features to his precious face.
After I had pieced my red patchwork , I gave myself a big pat on the back and went into the kitchen to check on Mr. Pinker who was a little flustered.
"I am going to Wally World to get more supplies. Ya' wanta go? " I looked around at the kitchen to see bowls , a sausage stuffer, grinder and such.
"Nah, I will forgo that trip, " I said with a smile. I knew that he would be quicker on his own, and I still had a few odd sized scraps leftover from my project.
With a ZOOM, ZOOM , ZOOM! The scraps were moved through the sewing machine, and as quick as a wink I had a little mug rug which I will be quilting this week.
As far as Mr. Pinker's project- well, he got his supplies and worked on making jerky sticks like Slim Jims. He will be smoking them today in his smokers. I think he is one happy fella about his project too.
Can you tell from my pictures that I am getting in the Christmas mood? Hee ! Hee! Later this evening , I will go to my daughter's to put up her Christmas tree. ๐
Afterwards , I will settle down on the couch with a warm cup of apple spiced tea, and I will stitch away on my newest ornament called "O' Christmas Tree".
"O' Christmas Tree" in the works.
Last night I watched Christmas with the Kranks. I am not sure which movie I will watch tonight. Do you have any suggestions?

ReplyDeleteYou know how much I love a little quilt and here you go again making something super cute. I was thinking I might do some sewing today but instead I stitched, stitched and stitched some more. That doesn't mean I wasn't thinking about making a little quilt or two. LOL All you need is a nice pile of pretty squares and poof a new cute quilt. I'm in love. It's the little things that matter (no pun intended - LOL)
Happy Sunday - take care of you and your man. Big ole hugs, DarleneJ
LOL you always keep me in stitches sweet Darlene. I am finally sitting back and appliqueing the little gingerbread man tonight. I do not why but I am just smitten over simple little quilts. Oh it sounds like you have had a wonderful day stitching away and staying a busy busy bee. I pulled out more fabrics today while rummaging in the quilt room. Maybe a new little quilt will come to mind. Hope your day was a beeeautiful one! Big Hugs
DeleteHave fun decorating for Christmas! I fall cleaned on Friday, the farmer helped me. He changed the quilts hanging in the rafters and dusted the way high up windows. Good thing heights don't bother him like they do me! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteOh how wonderful that your dear hubby gives you a helping hand to do the fall cleaning and removal of the quilts. It certainly makes tasks quicker. Are you hanging winter themed quilts right now? Have a blessed evening, Gretchen. Hugs.
DeleteLovely Christmas stitching Melisa! Enjoyed my visit here. ๐๐♀️๐๐ค๐๐ฉท๐❤️xx Hugs, Barbara, @flashingscissors xx Now to see what Christmas fabrics I have. ๐๐๐
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, Barbara. Oh have fun going through your Christmas fabrics. Starting a new project is always a delight. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteI love your new ornament! Thank you so much. No stitching today as we're going to the Lady of the Lakes Ren Faire. Finished one quilt yesterday though and will be working on a dinosaur quilt tomorrow for my grand daughter. And we're watching Christmas movies on Hallmark - if you can get it, watch Mistletoe Murders! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteOooh Mistletoe Murders sound intriguing . I will check that out. I hope you had a wonderful time at the faire today. I have never heard of this fair. I will have to look it up. Do they have a craft show and such ? Woo Hoo on finishing a quilt, Donna. A dinosaur for your dear granddaughter will be wonderful. I know she will just adore it. Happy quilting. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteYou mind must never sleep and your fingers never stop stitching!! Keep up the good work Melisa;)
ReplyDeleteLOL I wish I didn't have to do that ole' sleep thing. Hee! Hee! Or had more hours in the day. But I sure try to make the most of my stitching time when I can. Thank you for the sweet visit and for brightening my day , Vicki. Hugs.
DeleteYour mini quilt projects are darling, Melisa. What a lovely cross stitch piece you are working on! I am going to finish setting up the November decor along with the laundry and a few other things today.
ReplyDeleteOh I cannot wait to see your November decorations, Robin. I always enjoy seeing all of your pretties on your freestanding stove and your tree. I hope you had a wonderful day decorating. Thank you so much for the kind words on my quilts. It felt good to get back to the machine. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteWhat a delightful post! So happy and uplifting to read. And wonderful stitching too. Btw, my SIL has a smoker and makes venison jerky too.
ReplyDeleteOh I bet your SIL's jerky is delicious. Hubby manned the smokers today . I think he made some with jalapenos . So I am anxious to try it. Thank you for bringing a smile to my day, Jocelyn and Happy November. Hugs.
DeleteI had a great time reading your post about your projects and Mr Pinker's jerky. I'm also loving your new stitching, I can't believe it's November already!! Too bad today I won't have a lot of time to work on my projects today as I have to rack a lot of leaves with my husband!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Oooh raking leaves! I do hope you take breaks when needed - that is back breaking work. Maybe tomorrow you can sit back, put up your feet and enjoy a day of stitching. I sure hope so. Thank you so much, Diana for the sweet Sunday visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a cute quilt! I love the browns with the reds, so cozy. Your Christmas tree cross stitch is adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Linda. I do need to make an effort to add more browns to my stash. I am becoming more and more smitten over them. Have a wonderful afternoon. Hugs and Blessings.
Deletegood morning sweet Melisa.
ReplyDeleteyou are such a wonderful inspiration. you along with one of my friends are getting my feet very itchy to start up cross stitching. i mean really start getting into it. not the collecting of patterns (though i will continue to do so - it inspires me), thread and fabric, but sitting down and putting the needle to the fabric. i have everything to do so, but why am i so lazy. i don't get it. oh well, too, much daydreaming (and collecting) i suppose. i am going to begin and my first project i have decided will be "O' Christmas Tree" created by the amazing girl wonder Melisa. applause please. Miss Melisa is the best and thank you so much for the wonderful little project. just ready for my stitching hands.
please don't worry about me. i am going to be as good as new after the first of the year. i was going to have knee replacement surgery November 14th, but that is being delayed until April 10th because i need to have back surgery on January 23rd. for my back surgery the dr is going to go in and bore out a bone (i'm not sure which one) to make the area wider because my sciatic nerve is being compressed because of a narrow bone opening. so, basically, the surgeon will decompress the area. then, then, then, i'll be ready to run that marathon. yeah right!!!! haha it's always nice to dream.
i was going to get a puppy after the first of the year when my knee had healed a little bit more, but i have decided perhaps November will be the month. my sister wants to get a puppy, too. my family says no, no, no more dogs. i love my animals so much. i lost a lot when my Bella went to doggie heaven to join her brothers and sisters on October 29, 2024. i just get can't past this emptiness i feel. oh well. no one in my family understands this. deal with it Debra. i am, i am.
anyway enough of that whooey. is your o christmas tree up now? i can't wait to see it and the hutch you create. you have so many lovely collectibles. how i want to come and live with you!!! can i, can i, please, please, please. i just have room enough for a tree, but i love the twinkly lights. they are so peaceful to look at. just like the twinklies you have in your hutch displays. they make everything come to life. i love it. when can we see your thanksgiving or christmas hutch? perhaps we will see both!!! please, please. that's a lot of work, but miss melisa you are so talented you can do anything.
i love your little mug rug and mini quilt. so cute. the gingerbread man on the mini is adorable. see what i mean - innovative!!! you rock Miss Melisa.
i have held your ear for way tooooo long and your other readers are probably thinking - "windy is back". i just feel like i am talking face-to-face with you. you are such an amazing person.
have a wonderful, blessed day Melisa. love and hugs are coming your way.
Debra
Hello Miss Debra and Happy Happy Sunday. I hope your day was a good one. It was rainy here, but I got a lot done despite the rain showers. Oh, I am so excited that you are going to begin working on a cross stitch and what an honor that you will be one of my little ole' designs. I sure hope you enjoy it. Over the years , I have gone through spurts where I like to cross stitch and other times I want to focus on quilting. LOL I have to admit quilting will always call to me. Oh gosh, do keep me posted on how you are doing as your surgeries near. I have heard that sciatica pain is not for the faint of heart . But yes, when you get those surgeries done and you are healed up you will be ready to run that marathon and maybe I will run with you. Hee! Hee! Well as long as you promise not to leave me in the dust. LOL. Just know that you are staying in my thoughts and prayers, sweet friend. Well I put up my hall Christmas tree , but I still have some tweaking to do. The living room tree probably will go up tomorrow. Don't you just love twinkling lights. I rummaged through the attic and just used what lights I had on hand, but the next ones I purchase, I will make them twinkle . I feel like I am moving at a snail's pace on decorating , but I will get there. I bet your home is so warm and cozy and your tree just beautiful. I am so glad that you are enjoying it. Well , sweet friend, I will let you go. Big hugs and much love.
DeleteWhen I read that the turkeys are coming, I thought we'd be looking at your Thanksgiving decorations... hahaha!!
ReplyDeleteI also loved the patchwork work and that beautiful Christmas design...
I can't wait to start decorating for Christmas! ๐
Hugs
LOL, hubby and I usually pull out all of my turkeys come November 1st , but I decided not to get them down yet. I have to admit that I love collecting turkey pieces. Maybe I will pull out a few this week. I am really enjoying the simple little quilt. I have been working on it tonight. Enjoy decorating for Christmas dear Isabel and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteThat little Christmas quilt is going to be so sweet, Melisa! It will be perfect with a gingerbread man on it. I was just remembering that I stitched one of your gingerbread embroidery designs last year. I should finish him up! First, I'll finish the "giving thanks" design, though. I bet Mr. Pinker's homemade jerky is very tasty!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Diann. I am looking forward to having the little fella appliqued and ready to quilt. I still have not finished my gingerbread embroideries . I do need to finish them too. I cannot wait to see yours. I was thinking about your Giving Thanks stitch today- it is looking so pretty. It made me want to make another one similar. Have a great evening. Hugs.
DeleteZoom, zoom, zoom was right, all stitched up quick as a wink!
ReplyDeleteOh I like those kind of projects where you can whip them up as quick as a wink. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit. Jenny. Hugs.
DeleteIt sounds as if all is well in your household, Melisa, with you and Mr Pinker busy doing your own thing. That's going to be a sweet little quilt. Perfect for Christmas.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I am glad that Mr. Pinker has his hobbies just like I have mine especially since we are retired. We like to stay as busy as possible. LOL. Thank you for the sweet visit, Kim. Have a blessed day. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteMelisa, that is a sweet little quilt you have started. Did clean-up in the front garden the past two days. Took out large bushes of lavender and transplanted elsewhere. Front was looking too stragglely and my Vinca vine was so overgrown, ripped it all out. I’m sure some will grow back in the spring and I can transplant it where I want it. As for a different Christmas movie, I recommend an odd movie call Mixed Nuts, it has a good cast with Steve Martin, Rita Wilson and Madeline Kahn! We watch it every year! There are so many more; The Most Wonderful Time of the Year with Henry Winkler and Brooke Burns is another good one. It’s an older Hallmark movie. I love Christmas movies and there isn’t enough room to list them all. I like your new Christmas stitch. Will definitely be stitching it. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh , you have had a busy weekend, Gail. I hope you took time to rest afterwards and were not sore from all of the work of moving the bushes. As much as I have tried, I just cannot grow lavender. I guess it is the soil ; Hmmm I am not sure. But vinca I can thankfully, I can grow. It sounds like you have a very green thumb. I haven't heard of Mixed Nuts and Henry Winkler's movie ( Love Henry Winkler) . I will be checking them out. Have wonderful evening and thank you for dropping by for a visit. Hugs.

ReplyDeleteLove how you & Mr. Pinker compliment each other so well -- both happy as larks doing your own things. Your Christmas quilt is going to be adorable and thank you for the Oh Christmas Tree cross-stitch.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Susie. He is my soulmate for sure:) And I am so glad that he enjoys doing hobbies just as much as I do. He likes to stay a busy bee. I have been stitching and working away on both my quilt and stitch tonight. Fingers crossed I can fully finish them this week. Have a great week. Hugs.
DeleteThank you for so much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAaaw shucks, thank you, Lyn for the sweet visit and kind compliment. Have a blessed and beautiful day. Hugs.
DeleteI like your new stitch project. I visited with friends today and made a few greeting cards. I did not stitch. Not stitching is unusual to not happen in a day. . .but, tomorrow I will be back at it!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh how fun, Terry. I hope you will share your greeting cards. I still have my scrapbooking materials but have not made anything in years. It would be fun to make a few cards for the upcoming season. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteThis is such a lovely post! I love all your photos, everything is so beautiful and heartwarming!
ReplyDeleteAaw you are always so kind and supportive, Linda. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope your day was a good one and I wish you a lovely week. Hugs.
DeleteThe colors in the Christmas quilt are so bright and cheerful. The gingerbread man is a wonderful addition. The mug rug is such a fun idea - I am going to have to make one. The new cross stitch pattern is adorable; I can’t wait to stitch it. Thank you for the design and inspiration. I worked
ReplyDeleteIn the garden digging up elephant ears and preparing them for storage. My daughter and I had the Reese’s Oreo peanut butter cups this afternoon - I agree it is good. Have a great week. Alicia
Such a cute stitch. I saw one of your houses stitched on Black coffee and Grits. It is the Sunflower house. I have stitched it too
ReplyDeleteOh I can't wait to see the new little quilt on your Hoosier!! Mr. Pinker's jerky sounds delish!! I haven't had venison jerky in years. The O Christmas Tree stitch design is so cute, Melisa. Thank you, as always, for sharing.
