Mr. Pinker was just wanting to check the hives and look for the queens. He was able to mark a couple.
They are looking good.
I pulled out on old WIP , Little House Needleworks' "Farm Life". This will be my Farm Friday stitch. Please excuse the wrinkles ; this piece has been going to the ballgames with me. ⚾🏏

The trim is 2 strands of thrifted yarn that I twisted and whipped stitch in place.

ReplyDeleteWe were so happy how well the bees did over the winter and all of these hives were captured on the farm or in the holler. I haven't watched him mark the queens but he uses a special marking tube to hold the bee and then gently places a mark on her thorax . This helps him keep up with how old she is . Next time he does it I will try to take some photos. They are fascinating to watch. Thank you for the sweet visit. Have a fabulous day, Darlene

DeleteI was about to ask the same question as Darlene did. Interesting! Do they make a lot of honey? I know so little about bees except they sting but make great honey! LOL! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had taken photos of hubby marking the queen. It is fascinating to hear how he does it. I always enjoy watching the bees at work. We have one set of bees that are sort of ornery. He said they were a bit fussy when he checked them. We have got enough honey for us and my parents, but with the growing hives I am sure there is more to come. Fingers crossed. Lol. ReplyDeleteThey are amazing. I love going out and watching them buzz about the hives. He uses a special marking tube to hold the queen and then he gently marks her with a special colored marker on the thorax. Different colors for whatever year there is a new queen or hive. It helps him find her quickly too. I wish I had taken photos. I worked on a new strawberry stamp last night. Hopefully it will be posted on Sunday. Thank you for the sweet visit, Diann. DeleteAhh--what a cute little bee pin keep--I do love bees--at least honey bees--we have some bees here for about a month or so that are long bees and love to buzz around you--they make hives in the grass/dirt--I don't believe they sting--but they are bothersome if you are outside sitting--

I enjoy the bees too especially when they are working my flowers and giving us honey. Lol. Hmmm your long bees sounds like some bees that we have here too that like to buzz about one . DeleteRebecca here in Alabama. Love the bees (but I love all of your work) Maybe in the future you could do a bee sampler like the spring and fall. But I have to many ideas for others too. Like a Halloween and quilts/sewing. Just saying. Hope you have a wonderful day!!

DeleteThank you for the cute Bee pin keep stitch. The visit to the farm today had me missing my hives at the farm and our honey. Being seriously allergic to stings, I steered clear of them for the most part, but I sure enjoyed the honey. Yesterday we planted a new peony. My Mother's Day gift from my son. Hopefully, I won't kill this one. Ha! Today's task is to attach the last outer border to my QOV challenge. I hope your "weeding muscles" are doing better than mine! LOL
ReplyDeleteBeing allergic to bees certainly puts a damper being around them as much, but I know what you mean about the honey. We have really enjoyed our bees' honey . Oooh I love peonies- what a fabulous Mother's Day gift! I am going to have to add one to my garden- perhaps next year. My Nanny always had one at the bottom of her sidewalk. It was a treat to see it bloom in the spring though ants would cover the blooms. I hope you made great success on adding your border. You are having a busy weekend.
