We are just getting into winter and Mr. Pinker and I are already dreaming of warmer weather. How about you?
Welcome, sweet friends and Happy Tuesday. Do come in and join me on this quiet , chilly day.
With Thy Needle and Thread's "Snow for Christmas"
The other day Mr. Pinker and I were talking about how we just cannot take the cold weather any longer. It chills us to the bone. Brrrr! Well we do like the snow, but we do not see that too often.
The small foyer is decorated with Christmas quilts and cookie jars.
Here of lately the days have been in the 40's and the nights in the mid 20's which might not be too awfully cold to some of you, but it is for this southern gal. π₯ΆAnywhoo... usually in December the temperatures hover around 60 with a few days in the 70's. But not this December so far.
In the evenings, I snuggle under a quilt that I have in a hoop and....
.... dream of Mr. Pinker and I trucking down the road in ole' Big Red aka our truck with the rickety rackety truck camper in tow.
The vintage shelf is filled with Dollar Tree plates and some of my favorite cookie jars of the season.
As my needle weaves in and out of the pretty fabrics, my mind wanders to sunny days and basking in a lounge chair in the desert with not a soul in sight except for the gambel quails cooing among the brush and the coyotes howling in the distance.
Alabama Beauty is still in the works.
It will not be long before Mr. Pinker and I will being doing just that. Mr. Pinker has already started working on the side by side ( off road vehicle) which we will take along with us. He is adding a horn for when we are driving down the road, and he is adding a back window to prevent the dust and sand from whirling back upon us as we explore the desert backroads and trails. We debated on whether to add more solar to the camper, but we will make that addition later.
I added my biscuit tin to the shelf. The cowboy reminds me of my travels westward.
Meanwhile, I am stocking up on canned foods to take along with us and other needful things that will be squirreled away into the cabinets of the old camper.
A modge podge of items are on the little shelf.
But wait we still have all of the joys of Christmas to enjoy.π
And after all of that .... well then... if all goes well , Mr. Pinker and I will be enjoying our sunshine!
Thank you for the sweet visit.

Oh Melisa, I can understand. I am also not the one who loves cold weather. Although in my younger days I loved to go skiing and, you won't believe, I was a speed skater for some years.
ReplyDeleteToday I love sunshine and warm weather. At the moment the weather is very changeable. We had temperatures like in spring and the other day it chills to the bones. Well, I stay at home and amuse myself with things I like. Your deco is again very nice.
Have a great day,
Gabi
Aaw such delightful winter memories. Wow a speed skater too! I can only imagine all of the training you had to do for that sport. I bet you had strong legs as well. We rarely get snow here, but it is always a delight when we do. I went skiing once and had to walk down the mountain or otherwise I would have been tumbling. LOL. I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who can no longer take the winter chill. Thank you for bringing a smile to my day, Gabi. Hugs.
DeleteHere it's been cooler at night but still too warm for me during the day. I grew up in deep south Texas so no snow but definitely did get colder. I live on the Surface of the Sun so it's just too darn warm and extremely HOT during the summer. I get tired of the hummmm of the a/c. Now this year the cold is really bothering me. I swear it's colder in the house than it is outside. LOL I do not enjoy being outdoors so I'll accept what I can get. LOL Your home is lovely all decked out and ready to celebrate Christmas. Happy, happy Christmas with lots of Christmas hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteOh I can imagine the AC constantly runs during the summer in your neck of the woods, Darlene. It can get hot as blue blazes . Right? I watched some of my favorite YouTubers who were camping in the southwest during the summer and at night it would still be in the 90's . Wheww! The other day one of the YouTubers went back to her "summer clothes' because it has been so warm. LOL. I hope your day was a lovely one and you are feeling better. Big hugs from a chilly holler.
DeleteI am a Southern gal and do not like cold weather at all. Last night I had to put 2 extra throw blankets on top of already sleeping under a topsheet, bedspread and Indian quilt Concrete buildings retain the cold and there's no insulation or central heating so I have to layer up to keep warm. My mom and brother are in Mississippi and it's been very cold for them so far this winter but will warm up by Christmas. Enjoy all your holiday happenings.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you were snug as a bug in a rug with all of the blankets. Oh yes, those concrete buildings are cold. You can feel it through the walls . Right? Are the days just as cold right now where you live? Do stay warm . Thank you for the sweet visit and have a lovely day. Hugs
DeleteIt was 5* yesterday morning when I got up around 6, this morning it was 9*! The weather forecast though is to have 50* on Christmas day! This cold weather certainly makes staying inside and sewing much more enjoyable. Have a blessed Christmas with your family and friends.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Gretchen! Now that is cold! But you are right - it does make you want to stay in and spend the day sewing. I hope you were able to get a lot accomplished. I have been trying to work on a few projects these last few days. Enjoy the rest of the week and Merry Christmas
DeleteIt's chilly here but not as bad as the rest of the nation! Brrr! Not going anywhere for Christmas - having a late celebration with middle dd and family the weekend after Christmas since they are both working. Dh will also be getting his mom for the celebration. I spied a very pretty Christmas tree quilt in the foyer. Did you make that? SO pretty. What pattern did you use? Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you would be traveling for the holidays. I am glad to hear that you will be able to enjoy the holidays with your dad and dear MIL. Our youngest daughter will be home soon; I am very excited. Oh that little tree quilt was a fun one to make. I just strip pieced scraps of green and red fabrics and appliqued them to a background fabric. I will have to take it down and show some better photos. It was a fun quilt and kept me sane when the workers were here to repair our house after a flooding disaster. Have a wonderful evening, Donna. Hugs.
DeleteThey were saying the other night that this was one of the chillier Decembers in recent years. But, we will be see a few days in the 50s beginning tomorrow. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI think it has been one of the more cold Decembers that we have had in quite awhile. It would be nice to see a white Christmas , but if it is not going to snow then I just soon it warm up. LOL. Stay warm and cozy, Robin. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteYour Alabama Beauty is coming along so well, Melisa--such a lovely piece to be quilting while dreaming about warmer climes!:))) We are not able to withstand this colder weather so much anymore either--ye olde bones are complaining mightily!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Julierose
Aaw thank you so much, Julierose. I have had to make a couple of more repairs , but have been working on it each night even for just a few minutes. I know what you mean about the old bones complaining. Nope the cold is not for me. LOL. Stay warm and Happy quilting. Hugs.
DeleteMy Hubs and I talk about the same thing. I have always loved cold weather, but it is getting harder on me! Hubs does not like cold weather at all. But I don't want to move south or anywhere it is warmer, so I guess we will just dress warmer! Your desert views look wonderful. Mr Pinker is really talented to do all those improvements/preparations.
ReplyDeleteThe cold weather used to not bother me as much, but nowadays I just do not enjoy it at all. And it is the pits if it is a cold and gloomy day. I tell hubby all of the time that I need the rays of the sun. LOL . Yep guess warmer is all we can do . Thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit, Linda. Hugs.
DeleteYour holiday decorations are very festive - love everything. The cookie jars are fun. It seems to have been colder earlier than normal this year. We have also had temperatures ranging from 7 degrees a couple of days ago with predictions of 50+ this week! Mr. pinker and you have a lot of celebrating and time with family in December - that is wonderful. The Alabama Beauty is coming along nicely. Stay warm, dream of that future camping trip, and have a great day. Alicia
ReplyDeleteOh I just have a "thing " for cookie jars, Alicia. Though I have been trying to refrain from purchasing any new ones- well unless they are antique and strike my fancy. LOL. Brrr 7 degrees is bone chilling. Do stay warm and cozy, Alicia . It is good to hear that warmer days are ahead. I was hoping to finish Alabama Beauty, but alas that will be a 2026 finish. It is one of those quilts that I am enjoying every stitch. Thank you for the sweet visit. Warm hugs.
DeleteYour cookie jar display is awesome! I hope the quilt on your lap will stay off the cold until the temperatures rise. We have had a wet, but, mild December so far. I can do without the ice and freezing temperatures!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteIt has been so nice to snuggle under Alabama Beauty at night as I work on it, Terry. I have made a few repairs and I think I will be moving the hoop very soon. It is good to hear that you have enjoyed a mild December. Hopefully, the mild temperatures will continue throughout the winter season. Thank you for the sweet visit and enjoy your evening. Hugs.
DeleteLovely shots of all your holiday decorations but I must confess that I love your ramblings on heading to the desert. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun myself!
ReplyDeleteAaaw shucks . Thank you so much, Susie. We are so looking forward to it. I enjoy being outside and seeing all of the sites and of course exploring the dusty trails. Hopefully, we will be in the desert soon. Have a blessed day and Merry Christmas.
DeleteThe weather there is much more winter-like where you are than here where I am. After that one snowfall, it warmed up and has been doing nothing but rain, rain, rain. Parts of our state have had some serious flooding and we've also had some high winds, which in combination with the rain can cause a lot of trees down. I understand dreaming of some warm desert time. I hope all your plans work out and you can hit the road after the holiday. I love the decorating with the red trucks/cookie jars. So festive! Those Dollar Tree plates are perfect.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, Ginny. I hope all is well in your neck of the woods and there has not been any damage. I am always afraid of the trees falling during rainstorms and high winds. Do stay safe and warm. We are looking forward to our trip. Lots of preparations to work on beforehand though. Aren't those plates the cutest? I have really enjoyed using them. Thank you for the sweet Tuesday visit. Hugs.
DeleteI'm also someone who gets cold easily, and the temperatures here are very similar these days in December.
ReplyDeleteI love the entryway decor, Melisa.
Hugs from Spain
Oh do stay warm and cozy, Isabel. Hopefully the weather will not be too fierce as winter approaches. Thank you for the sweet compliment on my Christmas decor, Isabel. I have enjoyed having the cookie jars out on display. Have a blessed day. Hugs.
DeleteIt sounds like your December weather has been very different from ours up here in Colorado - we're still getting 60s during the day. Kind of odd for December here! I love seeing the views of your cozy, Christmas-y house, Melisa. Enjoy your stitching and those dreams of your upcoming desert trip!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Diann. That is so nice. I will take 60 degree weather any day. LOL. I hope you continue to enjoy a mild winter. How cold is it getting at night? Thank you for the sweet visit . Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteI had been wondering if AZ was on your radar again! It's been upper 70s here. You were really alone there in Havasu, such a pretty area! You'll be having so much family fun in the next couple weeks that time will pass quickly.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering if you had made it out there yet, Vicki. I am super excited. I have been watching all of the traveling Youtubers with their updates. We have found some great camping spots over the last couple of years. Sometimes we do not see a vehicle for days. LOL. Enjoy that warm weather. Hugs
DeleteIt was a very sweet visit with you ♥️ππ€✨ (nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteAaaw thank you so much, dear Sharon. You always bring a smile to my day. Have a very Merry Christmas. Hugs
DeleteWe used to drive full time in our Motorhome and it was so awesome. Now we are at home just trying to stay warm. Every time we see a Motorhome going down the road we wish it was us. With hubby being 87 and me 76 we need to be close to home. No more traveling just stay home lol. You have lots of fun on the road.
ReplyDeleteAwww I bet you have many warm memories of your travels and adventures, dear Patti. It gets in your blood doesn't it. I am sure at times you miss your days on the road. But there is no place like home either. It makes me smile to hear that you enjoyed your travels so much. Thank you for the sweet visit . Now you stay warm and cozy and Merry Christmas . Hugs.
DeleteRight there with you on this southern cold snap, Melisa! I don't like it, I don't like it at all! LOL Stay warm and quilt on, my friend. Hugs, B
ReplyDeleteLOL I was wondering if you were getting the same cold snap, Brenda. It is the pits isn't it? Hee! Hee! Maybe it will warm up soon. We shall see. Stay warm and cozy. Hugs.
DeleteYour wonderful family Christmas gatherings will keep you feeling cozy and warm, however cold it gets outside. Our Christmas is in summer, so I'll send some warm sunny vibes over to you.
ReplyDeleteOooh those warm sunny vibes would be delightful, Jenny. Oh yes, I am looking forward to our family gatherings. There will be lots of fun , laughter and lets not forget the food. Have a blessed and Merry Christmas. Hugs.
DeleteWe are having even colder weather than is normal up north, Melisa. At least we are used to it, but I imagine for those of you down south it is quite a shock. Not fun! I'm glad you'll be heading to warmer pastures soon :) Love your holiday foyer and especially the cookie jar collection. They are so cute! Enjoy the countdown and thank you again for your sweet designs! ♥
ReplyDeleteI do hope warmer weather heads your way soon, Carol. It has been quite windy here these last few days which makes the cold even more brutal. We are definitely looking forward to heading to a warm destination. Thank you for the sweet visit and Have a great evening. Hugs.
