Monday Rambles

We have flurries! Brrrr! ❄❄❄❄

Good afternoon, sweet friends and Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Were you a busy bee, or did you take the opportunity to sit back, relax and do something that you enjoy?

Well, it has been a very busy day these last few days since our last visit. I have been getting in lots and lots of grandma time which means loads of hugs, kisses and entertainment. Mr. R., my oldest grandson , got his cast off on Wednesday only to be replaced by a brace which he has to keep on for 7 weeks. His arm is not fully healed but is on its way. He will go back next month for another x-ray.

Basketball signups will be this week. Both grandsons will play, but Mr. R.  may not get to "officially" play until January. Meanwhile, my youngest grandson , Mr. F. has been enjoying his pitching and batting practice for baseball.

Over the weekend, they had a sleepover which you know what that means- today, I have spent all morning cleaning the house.   Four young boys on a rampage can wreak havoc on a house. LOL. πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒ

While cleaning in one of my cupboards, I found some sweet handmade Christmas treasures that I bought during the World's Longest Yard Sale over the summer.

The first little bag which I picked up for a quarter held 2 crocheted red bells and....a darling crocheted Santa Claus.

Gosh, I do need to learn how to crochet little pieces like this. They make my heart flutter. πŸŽ… πŸ’“

The 2nd bag which I purchased for fifty cents held  precious delicate snowflakes made from plastic canvas.

White yarn was woven around the snowflake edges.

The snowflakes are made of 2 layers of plastic canvas , woven with white yarn.

One snowflake even had some gold thread woven in as well. I believe I will put these on my mantle garland this year.

Gold thread was woven in 1 snowflake. Cute!

Now that brings me back to this morning snowflurries. Yesterday the temperatures began to drop from the mid 50's to a bone chilling 27 degrees by this morning. As the temperatures began to drop, I bustled about outside placing the remainder of the plants in the greenhouse while Mr. Pinker began the heater. As of now, my plants were snug as a bug in a rug.

It spit snow all morning long, but alas, nothing laid. We are expecting 2 more days of cold weather, and then it will warm up to the 60's again. Wheew! Thank goodness! I am not ready for snow. Usually , I am still sporting shorts come Thanksgiving time.

As the snow fell and the wind blew, I settled into my comfy chair to relax after cleaning the house from the great romper room sleepover this past weekend. Hee ! Hee!  I grabbed my Bow Tie quilt and added in a few more stitches.

Time to sit down in my stitchy chair to quilt away on the Bow Tie quilt.

My needle has went around, and around and around each little bow tie block.

Whoopee! It is now time to move the hoop!

11 more blocks to go!

I am seeing the light of day. 11 more blocks to go. YeeHaw! I am on my last row!

Well  Sweeties, that is my long ramble for the day. Sorry to be so long-winded.

Have a humdinger of a day and thank you for the ever so sweet visit !πŸ˜€πŸ€—

As Always...

Happy  Stitching and Quilting,

 y'all

Melisa

"Its snuggle weather!  "

Hugs and Stitches!!!!πŸ€—πŸ§΅❤

Dedicated to my dear sister, Amy. I love and miss you so much.. Love you , Amo.

  1. Oh what a treat to see a blog post in the afternoon! πŸ₯° I totally believe you that your grandkids turned your house upside down πŸ˜‚πŸ™ƒ Hopefully things have calmed down now and you have time to stitch!
I finally had time on Saturday and made 4 project bags. Some will be gifts for my stitchy friends.
We had some flurries yesterday too but that's not unusual for Maine. ❄️ I'm hoping winter will wait a bit longer though, i'm not quite ready for it yet. 🫣
Have a wonderful and cozy Monday! -Alex

  2. What fun to see that crocheted Santa! I used to make that exact pattern, maybe 30 years ago. Wonder if I still have it? Dot

    1. Aaaw how fun! I was drawn to that little Santa immediately. I had hoped there were more than 1 in the bag but I was pleased as punch to get what I did. Do you still have some of your Santas, Abelian? They would be so precious to have on your tree . I hope you find your pattern- maybe you could enjoy making more. Hugs and Blessings.

  3. So much happening in your little corner of the world. Busy days equal fun days. It's always very quiet around here but you won't hear me complaining. LOL I've been alternating between x-stitch and hand applique and simply having lots of fun. Late last week I received a lovely package from a dear friend with lots of goodies to help me learn how to do big stitch hand quilting. I have a very strong desire to learn so hopefully that will happen very soon. I'm always afraid to "just start" when I'm ready to do something new. I get super settled in my comfort zones.
BTW, the plastic canvas snowflakes are adorable and would be wonderful displayed anywhere you desire. LOL
Be good, take care and keep those hands busy. Big hugs, DarleneJ

    1. Good evening, dear Darlene. It has been another chilly day here in the holler and the grandkiddos were here again today- so no quilting time for me. LOL but that is ok. Oooh it sounds like you are having a delightful time working on different projects. Whatcha appliquing? Oh you just dive right on in on the big stitch hand quilting- I know you will do a fabulous job! But I get it- I drag my feet on starting projects too- Hee! Hee! Like learning to crochet some Christmas ornies. I hung my little snowflakes up and they are quite cute. Warm hugs from freezing holler.

    1. They sure are, Terry. They little ones were over at the house again today. Tomorrow is back to school time though. I am already dreaming of what color fabric I would like to use for the binding on my bow tie quilt. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.

  5. It sounds like you had a fun, busy weekend. I am expressed that you were putting the house back in order so quickly after the grandsons left. The Santa, bell’s, and snowflakes are very cute and a great purchase. I have the Santa and bells (mine are white) that were crocheted by my grandmother- they are front and center every year on my tree. It is very cold here, but no snowflakes yet. However, my sister lives less than 2 hours from me and they had flurries. It is also supposed to warm up again here this week. The bow tie quilt is coming along nicely. Thanks for the visit. Alicia

    1. Oh it was a wonderful weekend, Alicia. They have a grand time when they have sleepovers. They spent the day with me today; we had a craft day which is always fun. It just warms my heart to hear that you have your grandma's crocheted Santa and bells. I don't blame you for having them front and center. I bet they bring back many fond memories. I wish I had some of my Granny's ornaments, but I do have some of my mom's. Stay warm and cozy and hope that warm weather comes quickly for you. Warm hugs and Blessings.

  9. I hope Mr. R's arm continues to heal properly. Your quilt top is looking fantastic, Melisa. Did you have the storm that moved through TN on Friday evening? Heavy rain, thunder and wind hit Pigeon Forge that night.

    1. Oh thank you so much, Robin. He had to tell me all about his doctor's visit and he was proud of his snazzy blue brace. LOL. Well we were supposed to get hit by the storm, but it moved above us . I did not realize that it got so bad at Pigeon Forge. How awful. I always get a little nervous when high winds are in the forecast . Did you get any rain? I hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Hugs and Blessings.

    2. No rain in Virginia, but it rained heavily in Pigeon Forge. Not a fan of high winds especially when my hotel room was on the 4th floor.

  10. Oh my, poor Mr R, but glad it is healing well. Is Mr Pinker's arm healed up? I love the red background on your bow ties. I thought of you when I made Hubs take me to Goodwill the other day. I found a few treasures, but I really need a good thrift store! You and I are opposite on the cold and snow - I pray for cold weather for Thanksgiving! :D

    1. Aaw thank you so much, Linda. Little Mr. R was thrilled to get his cast off and told me all about his visit. He has been quite a trooper under the circumstances. Well Mr. Pinker has taken his brace off as well. He was tired of wearing it- LOL Men. Hee! Hee! But he is doing well. Oooh I am so happy you found some treasures at the Goodwill. I bet you were doing the happy dance. It is always a hit or miss here, but a joy to search . I hope you get the cooler weather for Thanksgiving and send me some of your warm weather. Hee! Hee! Hugs .

  11. What fun with the grandchildren! I spent time with all five of mine over the weekend too. Hope your grandson's arm heals quickly. Last week you had a post and featured your house that you called last year Bittersweet, Pumpkin Stacks & a Turkey - it is so adorable!! 1. Isn't Grandma time the best, Carrie! It sounds like you had a house full too. LOL. Thank you so much for the sweet well wishes for my grandson. He has been a trooper and is so happy he is now just in a brace. Oh I am so glad you reminded me of that house. I have so many houses that I have stitched that I sometimes forget which ones I have shared. LOL I will have to work on making out the charts. It warms my heart that you are working on my houses. I cannot tell you how much that means to me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope to post a new house this week . I still need to FFO it. Warm hugs.

  12. Your red bow tie quilt is a perfect seasonal choice to work on, Melisa--so pretty and cheerful!!
And we could use all the cheer we can get these days. I am just back from my weekly food shopping trip--only 32 here with a howling wind--soooo cold. I sported my "puffy" coat for the 1st time this season...
Speaking of thrifting--I found a lovely old cutwork tablecloth on etsy the other day--a little present for myself;))). I need a really good thrift shop here--s i g h ...

    1. Brrrr it is cold in your neck of the woods. A big warm puffy coat is perfect for going out in those biting winds. I do need to pull out my coats for the winter season. Oooh I bet your tablecloth is so lovely. I am always amazed by cutwork. I watched a video the other day on how it ; I would be so intimidated to make a piece such as that. What a treasure you acquired. I hope you post a photo. Yes, you deserve a present to brighten your day. Warm hugs and blessings.

  13. Oh how I loved those sleepovers. Now at 13 and 16, they are so busy we rarely get to see them except when I'm on kid car duty! They do pop in and out, but I miss the sleepovers. All three would want something different for breakfast...and they'd get it too! I'm glad yours are still coming for sleepovers. Good to see the bow tie quilt getting some love again. I'm glad your snow didn't stick. It's really cold here too. I think it dropped to 22 last night. But, like you, we will hit the 60s tomorrow and low 70s the rest of the week. I do not like this cold! As my mama used to say, "It's colder than a well diggers hiney in a hole in a ground!!" Her words may have been slightly different! LOL Have a great rest of your week dear Melisa. Hugs, B

Oh yes the sleepovers are such a joy. They are loud and rowdy - boys are so different than girls. LOL, but that is ok. Yep, ours gets they favorite breakfast too. They can devour bacon and pancakes. Stay warm, Brenda. Hopefully we will have warmer weather here in a few days. Warm hugs.

There is nothing like Christmas time with the grandchildren. My daughter will be coming home as well. I am over the moon. I hope you and your Mom are doing well and your week is off to a great start. Gosh the warm weather sounds delightful especially since it is as cold as the dickens here. Of course I am sure you are ready for cooler temps. Take care my sweet friend and have a very lovely week. 18. Glad to hear you had a great time with the grandsons. I sure hope Mr. R's arm heals quickly and completely. Love the ornaments you found. The snowflakes will be a nice addition to your garland. We saw on our cameras that we got a good bit of snow, but it has melted now. We are in Florida and missed the first snow of the season :( Heading home tomorrow which should be in the 60s.

  19. Oh, my! I think it's colder there than here. We have had lots of frost and some fog on warmer mornings but no snow in my yard. I can see snow in the mountains around us but none down here in our valley. Love those sweet little handmade ornaments. I have made a few in my younger years. Those snow flakes will add a nice look to your tree. You are sooo close with Otis Payne. Wonderful! If I could have my little Grands here with me, I wouldn't care one bit if things got mussed up. Lucky you!
