A Scrappy Finish

The Scrappy Adventure continued this week with the borders being added to The Ribbon quilt which was  a Quilt Along offered by dear Alycia at Quilty Girl blog

(Alycia will share her finished quilt in a future post. )

Anywhoo...First up was the blue borders. I just grabbed all of the leftover blue strips , ran them through the machine and soon added them to the quilt.

Next was the final border. While Alycia's quilt had a lovely white border, I opted for a red one. You know me- I have a love affair with all things red.❤❤❤❤

Sorry for the hazy photos. It was a rainy day in the holler. ☔⛈

To wrangle in all of that scrappy goodness, I chose a red Cranston VIP star print which I purchased from a quilty friend.

I did  cut  the outer border strips 1/2" wider than Alycia's border so  that I could easily work any leftovers into another quilt I have in mind.  Thinking ahead. Hee! Hee!

With a zoom zoom of the machine, the quilt top was completed! Walhah!

Thank you so much, Alycia for the fun filled quilt along.

So what am I going to get into next?  Well, we shall see. Meanwhile I do have some potato chip blocks calling my name.

Still working on potato chip blocks.

Are you working on a special quilt  or stitch right now?

I will leave you with more rainy day photos from the garden. More rain is expected so if you drop by,  you may find me dancing in the rain with needle and thread in hand!

As Always,

Happy  Stitching and Quilting, y'all

Melisa

Thank you for the sweet visit.

  1. This quilt is gorgeous, Melisa!
I love the red contrast on the border. I just got back from my vacation in Portugal, and we're in the midst of a severe heat wave in Spain... I wish it would rain here too.

  2. I'm standing on my chair clapping as loud and hard as I can - your quilt is gorgeous!!! Love the potato chip blocks - true scrappy. So stinkin' cute.
Rain??? What exactly is rain?? I can experience rain if I take the water hose and shoot it straight up into the air and stand under it. A true warm shower. LOL
I have several irons (get it?) in the fire with projects. I'm itching to make yet another small quilt. I should probably consider quilting a few instead of making more. LOL
Happy Wednesday, my sweet friend. Big hugs, Darlene J

    1. Eeeeh thank you so much for cheering me on with my finish, dear Darlene! I had a ball piecing this one. It is not perfect but was made with pure joy. LOL I wish I could wrap up this rain and send it to you. It was nice to wake up to the pitter patter of rain . The sun finally came out this evening and fortunately it was not muggy. I worked on a little quilt today too and pulled more fabric for another. You sound like me- I like to piece them though I have a stack that needs to be quilted. Big hugs from the holler

  13. good morning lovely Melisa.
you are so right Dolly Parton - just bring out the pretty umbrella. unfortunately, i don't think they sell many umbrellas here in california. it hardly rains in california where i live (is there a song like that - um!!! - i'll have to investigate - google come alive) and i cannot ever remember a time that i bought an umbrella. geez, that's amazing!!!
i love love love your ribbon quilt. i have made a few quilts with white borders and i really don't like a white border. it is so boring!!! i love scrappy quilts and a bright, dancing border is for me. i will use a red final border as well. i love love love red. it is the color of love and i love making quilts. i have kinda been in a slump lately. just lost the mojo, but it's coming back. my sewing room is clean now and once my daughter folds up the foldaway bed it will be full on ready for some sewing activity. my favorite color is blue, but red is a close second. thank you so much for all the inspiration you give me and the oomph to get the needle in fabric and sew sew sew.
i have flagged Alycia's blog site to read. i looked back on some of her quilts - she is a creative wonder, isn't she? wow!!! a very talented young lady. disappearing four patch quilts, quilts of valor, start your engine Alycia she's at it again. you are extremely busy, too, Melisa. i will probably forget to go to Alycia's site every now and then, but never never will i forget yours. i love it and it's the first post i go to in the morning after i read all my emails (or should i say delete all the garbage - when is Yahoo.com going to censor all the ads). you are such a fantastic young lady. always working on something and i am always so very interested in what you are creating next. you are like a duracell battery, just won't quit working. love love love it.
i have held your ear long enough darling Melisa. it's time for me to move on to facebook to see all the adorable animals they have posted. i'm looking for a lab or golden retriever, but i see so many other dogs i think my mind if doing the flopsy.
blessings and love are coming your way Melisa.
    have an awesome Wednesday.

    1. Good evening , sweet Debra and Happy Wednesday. I do hope you have been having a wonderful visit with your dear daughter. She leaves tomorrow doesn't she? Will you be taking care of Dusty? If so, give him a pat on the head for me. Hee! Hee! Well, I learn something new everyday. I did not know that California did not get that much rain. Do you live in the desert area? There are so many places that I would like to visit there- maybe someday. It just warms my heart that you like my quilt. Thank you from the bottom of my pea pickin' heart. You always know how to life my spirits and bring a big smile to my day. You are a blessing! Oh yes, Alycia is so very talented; I am always amazed by how much she gets done. Some days here are better than others in respect to productivity . Now Miss Debra I know as soon as you sit down to the machine, your mojo will return and you will be piecing up a storm. But I know how you feel . I have those days too. I hope you had a good afternoon and it was not too awfully hot. Do stay cool and take care. Warm hugs and blessings.
