Do you remember this little diddy from the Andy Griffith show? It has been humming in my head as I have been deadheading my marigolds and spreading the sunny seeds.

French dwarf marigolds are in bloom. |
Good morning , Sweeties. It is a pretty day in the holler. Would you like to take a stroll in the gardens before it gets too hot?
Be forewarned this post is photo heavy. I got snap happy! 📷📸📷
My tansy is blooming.
This is the first year I have grown it. Dad cut a big tree down at my sisters'. I helped him move the brush. I then grabbed a few limbs to prop up my tansy which is reaching for the sky.
The wild and woolly garden - well it is wild and woolly. Weeds need to be pulled, Gladiolus are spent and falling and small sweet gums need to be removed, but it still brings me joy even if it is on the wild side. "Perfectly imperfect, " as Jeri Landers of Hopalong Hollow says. ❤
It is filled with coreopsis, marigolds, lilies, lirope, purple majesty, cosmos, sedum, hostas, bee balm and newly planted hydrangeas.
 |
My wild and woolly garden in the making. |
This the 2nd year my Annabelle hydrangea has been in the ground and the 1st year it has bloomed.
 |
The Annabelle Hydrangea has finally bloomed. I am delighted! |
Sadly one of my favorite flowers did not come up in this bed despite my heavy planting of seeds. - My zinnias. Boo Hoo! 😏😀Fortunately, I have a few growing in the upper gardens.
Mr. Pinker has been bringing home more rock from the creek. Perhaps in the future, new garden areas will be framed with the roly poly stones.
 |
Creek rock line most of the beds. |
In the evenings, I like to sit in one of the patio chairs that I found on the side of the road. I watch the butterflies , bees and hummingbirds. Occasionally, I swat at mosquitoes that seem to pester me just when I want to relax. I usually have a piece of needlework nearby.

Working on a piece of embroidery. |
Speaking of gardens , I would love to show you my latest house that I meant to share a few weeks ago, but alas I was lost in my own secret garden. 🥀🥀🥀
This little stitch is called The Blue House, and it has a small garden of flowers just beyond its door.
 |
This house was inspired by a house I saw in Alabama as we traveled. |
What a pity, there are not many windows for the residents to view the blooms , but they can make their way outside of his humble blue home and sit among the flowers. That is what I would do.😀
The Blue House was stitched on 14 count coffee/ tea dyed Aida using -- DMC floss colors which included:
221, 372, 610, 642, 648, 730,732 , 775, 822, 844, 869, 926, 930, Blanc.

If you are interested in stitching this piece, just grab , the images. For printing tips, refer to the post Tips for Printing which has loads of tips from my sweet friends.

Did you notice the darling red, white and blue wool pennies?
 |
My new dough bowl filled with sweet wool pennies. |
My friend , dear Cheryle surprised me with a sweet package filled with these darling woolies to fill my dough bowl. ❤💙❤💙 ( Be still my heart- patriotic colors!)
She also sent me some cosmetic wedge sponges to prop up my pillows in my dough bowls. She said she saw that tip of Youtube. Now isn't that clever! Thank you so much, Cheryle.😘🤗❣
Well, Sweeties it is getting hot as the dickens. I guess we best go inside and enjoy a tall glass of iced sweet tea, put up our feet and do a bit of stitching. What do ya' think? Thank you for joining me today.
Now let's relax! 😀😁😘
As Always, Happy Stitching and Quilting, y'all Melisa Thank you for the sweet visit. "A garden is a friend you can visit anytime " - Unknown Hugs and Stitches!!!!🤗🧵❤ Dedicated to my baby sister, Amy. . Love and miss you, Amo.

Tomorrow will be a good day for a parade of stitches. If you are in the neighborhood , put on your hat while we march through the sunflower fields.

For me, it's always a pleasure to walk through the valley...there are never too many photos!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden photos.
Hugs from Spain
Oh thank you so much, dear Isabel. Slowly creating the gardens has been an ongoing journey. They are not anything fancy, but a joy nonetheless. I hope you are having a lovely day. Hugs.
DeleteI love your flowerbeds, so colorful! The blue salt house is very cute. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Gretchen. In year's past they have been vibrant with all of the zinnias. I guess I just purchased a bad batch of seeds. But the butterflies , bees and birds are enjoying what is in bloom. Have a blessed day.
DeleteYour flower garden looks so lovely. I love the rock trim, really sets off the blooms! The Blue House is lovely. I would love to live there but not in Alabama -- too hot for this old gal! Thanks for the stroll through your garden.
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Susie. I have been framing these gardens for 25 years and am still going . LOL. Oh yes it is hot here ; the humidity and the skeeters are the worst - well at least here in the holler. LOL. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteSo many beautiful flowers in your garden. I have lovely flowers in my backyard garden, but I call them weeds. Lovely shades of brown, every shade you can imagine. LOL On occasion I do encounter some green but it's very unusual. LOL And, the lovely treats from your friend are wonderful. Little to no stitching today as it was not a pleasant day. I'll spare you the details. Ugh!!! It's days like today that I truly miss my sweet husband. This too shall pass!! Deep yawns so I'm headed to bed. Enjoy your Wednesday. Big, big hugs, dear friend, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Miz Darlene. I am sending you a big ole' Wednesday hug. I do hope you feel better after a bit of rest. Those unpleasant days can be very draining for sure. It make us miss those who were there for us the most, but I truly believe your dear hubby is smiling down on you from Heaven. Take care, sweet friend. Blessings.
DeleteI failed to mention how much I love The Blue House. Everything about it is wonderfully perfect. More Hugs, DarleneJ
ReplyDeleteAaah shucks , Darlene. Thank you so much. This one came easy to me once I saw a similar house while traveling. Hugs.
DeleteGood morning my friend,
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful garden, what a relaxing oasis! ❤️ Just like you, I take walks in my garden and sit and stitch. Nature is so beautiful and relaxing! I love how many things the two of us have in common 🥰
And the blue house!!! I absolutely love it!! Just recently I told my 5 year old that I'm dreaming of living in a light blue house with a red door...and here it is! 🤣 I need to immediately start stitching it. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us, I appreciate it more than you know 🙏🏻🤗 I think this might be a nice little project to stitch on the plane when I go visit my sister's family.
My sister had an amazing green thumb and would've loved your garden too ❤️
I hope you have a fabulous day sweet Melisa!
Lots of love and hugs from Maine!
-Alex
P.S.: One of these days I'll finally start my own blog too 😁
Good afternoon, dear Alex and Happy Wednesday. I have been thinking about you as the days approach for your departure. I know you are anxious and filled with so many emotions. Isn't it amazing how the gardens give a sense of peace? I bet time is even more special as you think about your sister. I do the same. I am so touched that you are going to add this little house to your stitching list. May it bring you comfort and I do hope you enjoy each and every stitch. Warm Wednesday Hugs and many Blessings.
DeleteBeautiful garden. Wow, I absolutely love the blue house. My favorite color. Can hardly wait to start this one. Thank you. I’m going to look into the woolies. I never heard or seen these. Very interesting and cute. Have a great day. K from NY
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, K and Happy Wednesday. It is so good to hear from you today and I am so very touched that you like my little blue house. I do hope you enjoy stitching it. It worked up rather quickly for me. I have an affection for blue as well. I wish you a blessed day. Hugs from the holler.

ReplyDeleteOh what a wonderful garden. I wish my garden would look like yours. The flowerbeds are so pretty. Hydrangeneas are my favorites. The blue house I take to my collection for the day I will stitch. Thank you for sharing.
Have a nice garden day,
Gabi
Aaah Gabi, you are the sweetest. My gardens are a little on the wild side, but I enjoy them. Normally the are filled to the brim with lots of zinnias and cosmos. I am trying to add more perennials , but a little at a time. I am so touched you will be adding The Blue House to your stitching. I hope you enjoy it. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteI love your garden and your Blue House so much, Melisa! Hydrangeas are amongst my favorite. My glads have all fallen down too. Unfortunately, I just can't do the yard anymore. I'm glad we are mostly natural. My one yellow rosebush I bought and planted from a roadside nursery I found when I worked home health turned red years ago and now it just leaves but no flowers this year. I really need to get someone to pull it up. Have a great day! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Brenda. Well how interesting that your yellow rosebush turned red. Hmm I wonder why- maybe the soil? For some reason , I am into roses this year. I rooted some in pots and they are making it. So maybe I will be adding more roses to the gardens in the future. Thank you for the sweet Wednesday visit. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a pretty blue house addition to the neighborhood, Melisa! Love the wooly rounds Cheryl sent you and what a neat tip! Thanks for sharing! Your gardens look awesome.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Robin. Aren't those the sweetest wool pennies? I am blessed by my sweet stitching friends for sure. I am over the moon to have another house in the neighborhood. LOL. Now onward to the next one. Hee! Hee! Hugs.
DeleteLOVE your gardens, they are exactly what I want in flower beds. I love your marigolds, I waited too late to plant them this year. Sorry about your zinnias, I tend to just throw my seeds on the ground and rake them in - lol - I am lazy! Mine did take hold though, and I think I will plant a bunch more next year and see if I can get the butterflies to visit. You are so lucky to have a creek with those beautiful stones.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Wednesday, Linda. LOL I had to laugh because you and me plant zinnias the same way. Hee! Hee! . Usually I have no troubles. I guess I got a bad batch of seed and with being gone on trips didn't have the chance to start a new batch. I grow them for the butterflies too.Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteOh how I wish I had a green thumb like you! Guess I'll just have to be happy imagining sitting with you, stitching, and watching the "wildlife". I love your rocks around the garden - perfect.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the blue house - I've seen a few like that traveling to and from Steph's here in AL. I'll be looking to see if they have beautiful gardens too. Blessings!
Good afternoon, Donna. I hope your Wednesday is a beautiful one. I always find lots of inspiration when I travel through AL in respect to gardens. Seeing some homegrown AL gardens nearby is what got me wanting hydrangeas. LOL. We were going to go thrifting down there this week, but we have had the grandsons so maybe next week. Enjoy your day. Hugs and Blessings.
DeleteI think your garden is lovely, Melisa! I love a wild and wooly one! I finally got some zinnias to grow from seed in mine, but no blooms yet. Still hoping they will bloom! Your blue house design is wonderful - thanks so much for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Diann. Oh I am sure your zinnias will bloom. I do hope you will share photos when they do. I am a sucker for zinnias of any color. I wish you a wonderful day and thank you for the sweet visit and compliment on my newest humble home. Hugs.
DeleteYour gardens are beautiful. I love Zinnia's too. But sadly I have not planted in a long time.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Vicki. I have been working on them for decades. We have poor dirt so it is a feat to keep anything growing , but I try. I wish you the most lovely day. Hugs.
DeleteI love your blue house. I will start on it soon. Your flower garden is gorgeous and I would love to set out beside it and stitch. What a happy place
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Patty. I sure hope you enjoy The Blue House and I am so honored you will be adding it to your stitching list. I sure wish you were here to sit in the garden and we could stitch and chat away. Warm Wednesday Hugs.
DeleteWhat a lovely garden!! Stitchy friends are the best. Have a wonderful day!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Betty. Oh you are so right- Stitchy friends are the best. I feel blessed beyond measure. Thank you for the sweet Wednesday visit. I hope your day is a wonderful one. Hugs.
DeleteYour garden looks so pretty, Melisa. Your Blue House cross stitch is an adorable pattern. The cosmetic wedges are a great idea for propping up bowl fillers. I hope you are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteWasnt that a clever idea? I always struggle with propping my pieces up - well not anymore. LOL. They make a world of difference. Thank you so much for the kind words on my gardens and stitch. They both have been a labor of love. Enjoy your day. Hugs.
DeleteAlways love seeing your posts Melisa. That is so sad about your Zinnias. Mine all came up. I cannot wait to stitch this house. Your houses are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday, Lisa. Oh how wonderful your zinnias are up and blooming. I bet they are just beautiful. I hope they are attracting lots of butterflies and bees for your viewing as well. They usually put on quite a show of colors. I am hoping to do a better job with mine next year. I hope you enjoy this little home as much as I enjoyed stitching it. I am so very grateful you will be adding it to your list. Warm Hugs.
DeleteHello again, I'm already stitching your lovely house and I believe the "/" symbol in the chart should be the "U" color? Flag pole and little tree trunks. I'm not seeing "U" in the chart, and "/" is missing from the colors.
ReplyDelete-Alex
Oh Alex thank you so much for letting me know.🤗 I will go back and correct that pronto! I think I meant to change the symbol in the chart and forgot. Goodness. LOL I am sorry for the mistake but so very grateful for you letting me know. If you see any others , please let me know. Sometimes I am a scatter brain. LOL. Eeh I am excited you are working on it! Warm hugs.
DeleteThank you for the new house stitch. Each of your houses is so unique and special. Your garden is lovely. My hydrangea hasn't bloomed since I planted it. I must be doing something wrong. Maybe some food for the dear little plant. Sorry about the zinnias but with all your other flowers you still have some lovely things to enjoy. The woolies are such a sweet gift and the make up wedges is a great tip.
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much, Ginny. This house came easy after seeing a house very similar while traveling. That is one thing I like to do when riding down the road is looking at houses and gardens. LOL. My mom's hydrangea took a few years ago and now it looks amazing. So don't give up on it. I am putting coffee grounds along the base and raking them into the dirt ever so often. I was surprised to get blooms this year . Enjoy your day. Hugs.
DeleteI love the details on the roof and the striped siding!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Michelle. It was a super fun house to stitch and worked up pretty quickly too. I am itching to start a new house soon. I wish you the most lovely day. Hugs.
DeleteWhat a lovely garden you have !
ReplyDeleteThank you for the new house pattern !
Aaaah thank you so much, Annelies. You are so very kind; I hope you enjoy this humble home. Hugs and Blessings.
