TGIF! Come on in and visit my foyer . Though this area is small, it is filled with country pieces and winter goodness including quilts, stitching and embroidery. Please dismiss any dust bunnies. I will claim they are part of my decor too. Lol.
Earlier this week, I posted my finish of my Vinny Valentine Snowman quilt and showed a sneak peek of my foyer which is all decorated in snowmen.
Normally the hall is decorated in Snowmen dolls and mittens including this tiny tree that stays out year round. To be honest, I am not digging the tree this year, but that's ok. It will be back in mittens next year.
As you enter the foyer there are 3 doors that all sport wreaths and snowmen quilts . Of course there is my pink snowman that I just completed using scraps . I have always hung a couple of quilts from one door off from the living room , but about 2 years ago, I hung my 1st quilt in this area.
This little Frosty quilt was created with a Sandy Gervais charm pack, and he was the guy that officially started The Hall of Snowmen- well at least on the doors. He was the perfect size for the door and is hung off a Dollar Tree wreath using green clothes pins.
Last year "Will u Melt", a patriotic snowman ,joined "The Hall of Snowmen". I had created him years ago using late 90's early 2000's fabrics. I machine appliqued his features . I am not good at machine appliqued so now I just hand applique. It is a lot less frustrating for me.
Any time I see a shutter at the Goodwill, I grab it . Not to put on the house but to hang quilts from.
Three shutters of varying heights are propped against the wall and quilts are changed out seasonally.
The embroidery quilt was created a few years ago. My nephew loved for me to draw coloring pages for him. These little snowguys were the result of our playtime. Last year I used shirtings and scraps to create the appliqued quilt above it.
The top quilt was made from a variety of fabrics including a "terry type cloth " shirt.
Next to the shutters is a little tree with a doll chair. Normally, a little country stuffed snowman sits here , but that poor snowman never made it out of the garage . So I put my With Thy Needle and Thread piece called "Sweeping Snowflakes" on the chair . This was stitched a few years ago. I used some jute twine to tie the piece to the broom which I got at Walmart . I thought that one day, I might want to change out the finish.
The top shelf of the bookcase gets changed seasonally while the bottom shelves just holds country clutter. This year I went with a black and white theme and included stitchings and embroidery.
On top of a little wooden drawer turned on its side is a piece of winter embroidery I worked on a couple of years ago. I finished it in a metal tray and used my daughter's sweater as finishing fabric. No need to buy finishing fabric when I have a whole closet full of clothes that can be used. Lol.
Last year I stitched several snowmen including this little freebie from Balades et Broderies that I finished on a wooden tag that I chalk painted. I made a couple of changes in my stitch, but it is a darling design. Just click on the blog name to visit and see this freebie.
The little embroideries are some drawings that I completed over the years. I am always doodling, and it is fun to do something with those doodles. I am currently working on some little doodles that will be in "The Hall of Snowmen " next year. You can see those in this post where they are little freebies.
On the bottom of the drawer ( it has lost its bottom so it is used as a riser) is a winter cookie jar from the Dollar General and my Country Cottage Needleworks "Snowman Trio" . It was completed in 2019 and finished using a thrifted frame with a tiny top hat , a bit of ribbon and some Dollar Tree floral picks. You can see a peek of a little cross stitch that I completed in 2019 and shaped into a snowman doll. Oops I cut off his head in the photo.
On a little woolen mitten is my Prim Winter Peace which was a freebie last month. Click here to go to that post. There was a series of 5 of those ornaments.
And one of my favorite things to change out each month is my chalkboard. This little snowman is chilling out in a big ole' bowl for the winter and is sporting his favorite mittens.
Well that is my Hall of Snowmen in a nutshell. I am already dreaming up changes for next January and have a couple of snowmen quilts in the works. Hmmm where will they go? The ceiling? Lol I don't know but I will squeeze them in somewhere.
Have a wonderful Friday and a fabulous weekend. Keep being awesome and go do something fun today. And as always...
Happy stitching, ya'll
Melisa
