Welcome, ya'll and Happy Sunday.
My needle and thread will be meandering among a kaleidoscope of patchwork butterflies today.
Did you know that is what a group of butterflies is called? During the summer time and after a hard rain, I sometimes see a number of small butterflies gather among the puddles along the driveway. I have always wondered what a group was called and after looking it up - well now I know.
There is no making the deadline on finishing Butterflies from Heaven . I had high hopes of finishing it by August 22nd , but that will not be possible, but that is okay. I am enjoying the process. When I quilt on a block, I write small notes to my sister on the backing of the quilt. I know she is smiling down from heaven and reading the letters over my shoulder.

DeleteThere are several names for a group of butterflies, and I like "flutter", seems just right to me. Spending quiet time working in your butterfly quilt to honour your sister must be very comforting to you, remembering all the happy years spent together.

DeleteI think the butterfly you are quilting now (blue leaves & red flowers) is my favorite. At least until you show a close-up of the next block! In my family we say that when a butterfly floats above you it is a blessing from heaven. Plus, it is a sweet thought for it to be a kiss from your sister, too. Blessings, Kris
ReplyDeleteI have had so much fun working on this quilt. The brown butterflies with the flowers remind me of my sister so much, but I am like you- each butterfly is beautiful in its on way. Every time I see a butterfly now I whisper " I love you" so the message will be sent to Heaven. Thank you for the sweet visit, Kris. You always brighten my day.

DeleteThoughts and prayers are often a part of the quilts we make for others. Quilting messages into the butterfly quilt will make it so special for you in years to come every time you wrap yourself up in it. I am sure your efforts will be a blessing to you. The busy bee pull toy is one I remember from somewhere. I can't place it, though. The top quilt in the pile with the sunshiny face embroidery is interesting. Hope we get to see it at some point.

I am glad that I have been writing the letters on the backing. I have already went back and read them. They do bring much comfort. Oh yes, I will have to show that quilt sometime soon.
