Greetings , Honey Pies and a very lovely Sunday to you.
Shall we start the day off with a little Sunday quilt stack? It has been a spell since I have shared one of those. I gathered a few red, white and blue quilts to display on the old vintage rocker which was given to me by my sis.

The little sampler in the background is called Ameline Sampler from October House Fiber Arts. The chart was a sweet gift from dear Patience. Thank you Patience. ❤ |
Mr. Pinker and I made our way back home last night after a super short camping trip. We were at a tractor pull, but alas it got rained out so by evening time we packed up and made our way home.
 |
Too muddy for the tractor pull. |
Of course I had to stop at a thrift store, but no goodies were there to be found - well not for me. π But tomorrow is Monday Mania at our home thrift store where a certain colored tag is a $1.29 so just maybe I will find a goodie or two ( usually I come home with clothes. )
Last month, I began a new Patriotic quilt using a few fabrics that I had laying around.
This is the measurements that I used:
π§΅Cut 4- 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" red strips
π§΅Cut 4 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" blue strips.
π§΅Cut 4- 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" red strips
π§΅Cut 4 - 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" blue strips.
π§΅Cut 4 - 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" white squares
I laid out my first block. - A super simple block that measures 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" unfinished.
I switched up the layout of the colors in the 2nd block.
I made a total of 4 blocks. In hindsight, I wish I made it scrappy, but I am just happy to have a project in the works at this point. LOL.
I took this project with me while camping earlier this month. Soon I filled in the white squares with super simple drawings and began working on the embroidery. I will continue working on them this afternoon.
Two more blocks to finish.
U.S.A is in the works.
I am calling it Patriotic Pride.

A tractor pull in the mud is never a good idea. Ick!!! Another super cute Doodle Embroidery freebie. I'd love to stitch it but I get frustrated because my printer refuses to play right and prints everything a bit small. However, I remember when I printed the doodles with the chicken, eggs, etc the designs were small as well and I love that little quilt. I'll try tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI spent the day machine quilting several small quilts and thoroughly enjoying myself. Note to self...must do more sewing machine quilting. LOL Enjoy your Sunday. Big, Bigger, Biggest Hugs, Darlene J
Happy Happy Sunday , Darlene. Oh how fun to sit and sew the day away. I bet you had a ball. I do hope you are able to do more of it soon. I pulled out my sewing machine today and worked on some cross stitch finishes. I have a new quilt in mind so I am going to look through my fabric soon. It was a messy track; it is a good thing they called it off. We made it home before more rain fell later. I wish you the most spectacular start to your week. Big bear hugs!
DeleteWelcome home! It always feels good to get the laundry caught up after traveling. Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteIt sure does, Gretchen. That is always the biggest chore when we return. Tomorrow will be grocery shopping and then settling in for the fourth of July week. Thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteI love stitched samplers. Your recent finish turned out great. And the quilt blocks really shine with the embroidered middles. Happy stitching and sewing and quilting.
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell you how thrilled I was to finish this little sampler just in time for the 4th. I was lucky to find the perfect frame at the thrift store too. I was able to make progress on my embroideries today. This Mini quilt will go in the hoop soon. Thank you for the sweet visit, Tammy. Have a fabulous day. Hugs.
DeleteYour patriotic quilt blocks are looking fantastic, Melisa. Well done on getting your patriotic sampler finished! I am sorry your camping trip got cut short. I will be working on a small USA piece at Old House Vineyards today with the Northern/Central Virginia Stitchers and after dinner, I will be working on the 1991 PS Santa. Happy Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope you had a great time with your stitching group, Robin. I bet you came home so inspired. Sounds like some cute projects too. I do need to start a new PS here soon, they are the cutest aren't they? I was thrilled to pieces to finish the sampler. I am all ready to start a new one. LOL. Have a great day and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteOooh I love your patriotic blocks! And the fabrics you chose are so yummy π€€ π Reading your blog always inspires and motivates me to work on my projects π₯°
ReplyDeleteI'm currently stitching one of the summer houses from Waxing Moon Designs and made lots of progress at a retreat (Stitch Maine) yesterday π₯³ It's a rainy weekend here but today it should dry up a bit so hubby and I can work on my garden (we're building a fence from scratch...it'll be a memorial garden for my late sister - I don't know if you remember but I messaged you a few months back about you and me both losing our sisters)
Thank you for your lovely blog, it always brightens my day when I discover a new post! ❤️
Lots of love from Maine,
Alex π₯°
Aaw Hi Alex. I was thinking about you the other day wondering how you are doing. Oh, I do hope you will tell me more about your Memorial garden. I know it will bring you great comfort as you work on it . Did I tell you I have been working on one for my sister? It is sorta a "rusty" prim garden . I am adding butterfly bushes each year in memory of her. This year I added the 4th ( It will be 4 years August) My hubby built a rustic bench from old wood and I often sit by the bushes and watch the butterflies. It warms my heart that you will have a place to go and reflect on all of the wonderful memories of your sister. I cannot tell you how much it means to me that you visit my blog and find a bit of inspiration. It brightens my day. I hope you enjoy working on the Waxing Moon Summer House. ( I love Waxing Moon; I have high hopes to one day stitch all of the trios) . Have a wonderful week, dear Alex and thank you so much for making my day special. Hugs and love .
DeleteSorry the tractor pull got rained out. Your red, white, and blue blocks are beautiful, love the embroidery. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Linda. I was sorta expecting them to cancel after we sat there in the camper all morning , but it gave me a chance to get in some stitching time which was nice and I am sure there will be more pulls to go to soon. Thank you for the sweet visit . I hope you had a wonderful Sunday. Hugs.
DeleteThese are really beautiful patriotic designs, Melisa!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved them.
Hugs
Oh thank you so much, Isabel. It seems like it has been ages since I have worked on any embroidery so this project has been a lot of fun. Warm hugs and blessings.
DeleteBummer that your camping trip got cut short:( Love the new patriotic mini quilt.
ReplyDeleteAaw thank you so much, Vicki. Well at least I got to see one night of the pull and I got in some stitching time as well so that was a plus. LOL. Thank you for dropping by. I hope you had a wonderful and productive weekend. Hugs.
DeleteGosh, I couldn't imagine a tractor pull in the mud! Not a pretty sight that is for sure! Your patriotic sampler is super cute. What a great block to highlight your sweet embroideries!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteOh I couldn't either. I did not see the whole track until later . My view had been blocked by the semis but some of the field beyond the track got flooded and they had to pull the trucks out. Thankfully we did not get stuck. I have really enjoyed working on this simple embroidery. Hopefully, this little quilt will be in the hoop soon. Have a great week, Terry and thank you for dropping by. Hugs.
DeleteSo sorry your tractor pull event was rained out - that's no fun! But maybe the rain is a good thing, anyway? I know we could use some up here in northern Colorado. I love your sweet patriotic quilt/embroidery project, Melisa! That blue you're using for the blocks is my favorite shade of blue. Have fun working on it this week!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, we needed the rain, Diann. We are supposed to get more rain tomorrow and then it is supposed to turn hot again. I wish I could send some of the rain your way . Isn't that a pretty blue ? I wish I had more of that fabric; I am not sure where it came from. LOL. Thank you for the sweet Sunday visit. Hugs.
DeleteI let out an Oh wow when I saw the American Sampler ~ looks fabulous ~ I love it! (nwpaintedlady)
ReplyDeleteEeeh! LOL. Thank you so much, Sharon. I am super thrilled to have it finished. I think I know where I want to put it which means rearranging things. LOL. Have a beautiful day, dear. Hugs.
DeleteI love this little quilt with the embroideries. A cute, fun, quick project.
ReplyDeleteAaah than you so much, Sarah. I like having quick projects to take along with me. I was able to finish the embroidery today so I am hoping to find backing material and put it in the hoop tomorrow. Fingers crossed. LOL. Have a wonderful day and thank you for the sweet visit. Hugs.
DeleteHello to you! Your quilt stack is lovely and filled with beautiful memories, I’m sure. Your sister had good taste – I love me a rocker! I love your block! It seems jelly roll friendly and Lord knows I have a few of those laying around! Thank you for sharing! Your cross-stitching (as well as your drawings) never fail to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much. My sis loved to thrift as much as I do and was always sharing treasures with me. The little rocker brings back fond memories. Oh yes, a few strips from a jelly roll and this little quilt could be whipped up. It is a super fast project. I wish you a wonderful week and thank you again for stopping by. Hugs.
DeleteSorry the Tractor Pull was a muddy bust but maybe next time. Your Patriotic Pride mini is going to be wonderful! The fabrics are perfect! Congratulations on finishing the sampler. Beautiful! The new Winter stitch is coming right along and is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Ginny. It was best that it be canceled . It would have been a muddy mess for sure. But I had a great time despite coming home early. I am looking forward to putting this little quilt in the hoop soon. It felt good to work on a bit of embroidery after having a long break from doing any. Have a wonderful week, GInny. Hugs.
DeleteThat is a beautiful quilt Melisa!! Your sampler is lovely too!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Aaah thank you so much, Diana. Both have been fun projects to work on. I love anything patriotic! I wish you a fabulous week ahead. Hugs.
DeleteLovely blocks, and embroideries! Have fun tomorrow at the thrift store ;) Thank you for sharing and linking up!
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much Frederique. It had been a spell since I had worked on any embroidery so it was nice to work on this piece. Hopefully I will be quilting on it soon. I wish you the most delightful week. Hugs.
DeleteHow do you stain your Aida? It always looks so good
ReplyDeleteAaah thank you so much ; you are so very kind. I just take my regular Aida and put it in a big pot with lots of coffee, tea bags, cinnamon , vanilla and sometimes I add some salt to it. I don't use exact measurements, but I heat it up to a boil and then bring the temp. down to a simmer and let it sit for hours . I usually do this at night and then cut the stove off before bed and let the fabric remain in the pot. The next day I take it outside shake out the coffee grounds and let it dry . If I do not like the color I reheat my pot and add more coffee to it and go back through the process. If you have a chance , pop over to my August 14, 2024 post and I posted photos. I will put a link to it in tomorrow's post too. Let me know if you try it and tell me how yours turned out. Thank you again for the sweetest compliment and for visiting me. It means the world. Warm hugs.
DeleteSorry your tractor pull got rained out,. It has been a really wet spring. Your patriotic projects are all such fun. Hard to believe the 4th of July is this weekend! Happy stitching this week.
