Slow Stitching on Patriotic Pride

Greetings , Honey Pies and a very lovely Sunday to you.

Shall we start the day off with a little Sunday quilt stack? It has been a spell since I have shared one of those. I gathered a few red, white and blue quilts to display on the old vintage rocker which was given to me by my sis.

The  little sampler in the background is called Ameline Sampler from October House Fiber Arts. The chart was a sweet gift from dear Patience. Thank you Patience. ❤

Mr. Pinker and I made our way  back home last night after a super short camping trip. We were at a tractor pull, but alas it got rained out so by evening time we packed up and made our way home.

Too muddy for the tractor pull.

Of course I had to stop at a thrift store, but no goodies were there to be found - well not for me.    ๐Ÿ˜€ But tomorrow is Monday Mania at our home thrift store where a certain colored tag is a $1.29 so just maybe I will find a goodie or two ( usually I come home with clothes. )

Last month, I began a new Patriotic quilt using a few fabrics that I had laying around.

This is the measurements that I used:
๐ŸงตCut 4-   2 1/2" x 4 1/2" red  strips
๐ŸงตCut 4 - 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" blue strips.
๐ŸงตCut 4-   2 1/2" x 8 1/2" red  strips
๐ŸงตCut 4 - 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" blue strips.
๐ŸงตCut 4 -  4 1/2" x 4 1/2" white squares

I laid out my first block. - A super simple block that measures 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" unfinished.

I switched up the layout of the colors in the 2nd block.

I made a total of 4 blocks. In hindsight, I wish I made it scrappy, but I  am just happy to have a project in the works at this point.  LOL.

I took this project with me  while camping earlier this month. Soon I filled in the white squares with super simple drawings and began working on the embroidery.    I will continue working on them this afternoon.

Two more blocks to finish.

U.S.A is in the works.

I am calling it Patriotic Pride.

  1. A tractor pull in the mud is never a good idea. Ick!!! Another super cute Doodle Embroidery freebie. I'd love to stitch it but I get frustrated because my printer refuses to play right and prints everything a bit small. However, I remember when I printed the doodles with the chicken, eggs, etc the designs were small as well and I love that little quilt. I'll try tomorrow.
I spent the day machine quilting several small quilts and thoroughly enjoying myself. Note to self...must do more sewing machine quilting. LOL Enjoy your Sunday. Big, Bigger, Biggest Hugs, Darlene J

  4. Your patriotic quilt blocks are looking fantastic, Melisa. Well done on getting your patriotic sampler finished! I am sorry your camping trip got cut short. I will be working on a small USA piece at Old House Vineyards today with the Northern/Central Virginia Stitchers and after dinner, I will be working on the 1991 PS Santa. Happy Sunday!

  5. Oooh I love your patriotic blocks! And the fabrics you chose are so yummy ๐Ÿคค ๐Ÿ˜„ Reading your blog always inspires and motivates me to work on my projects ๐Ÿฅฐ
I'm currently stitching one of the summer houses from Waxing Moon Designs and made lots of progress at a retreat (Stitch Maine) yesterday ๐Ÿฅณ It's a rainy weekend here but today it should dry up a bit so hubby and I can work on my garden (we're building a fence from scratch...it'll be a memorial garden for my late sister - I don't know if you remember but I messaged you a few months back about you and me both losing our sisters)
Thank you for your lovely blog, it always brightens my day when I discover a new post! ❤️
    Lots of love from Maine,
    Alex ๐Ÿฅฐ

  10. So sorry your tractor pull event was rained out - that's no fun! But maybe the rain is a good thing, anyway? I know we could use some up here in northern Colorado. I love your sweet patriotic quilt/embroidery project, Melisa! That blue you're using for the blocks is my favorite shade of blue. Have fun working on it this week!
